That being said, piston boats should NOT be running in the same class as turbine powered boats. Two entirely different technologies/capabilities. If you think I am wrong, then just wait till Dave Callan & John Cosker bring out Miss Longlite or I bring out my turbine boat for a race. Both would obliverate the two Cat Extreme boats that just ran in St. Clair. If you have any doubt, then come to the LOTO Shootout. That is why both SBI/APBA & OSS have seperate Extreme classes. Doesn't mean you won't see the two classes competing. Just means that both of them deserve their own recognition for their efforts within their respective development programs. Just my .02!

Thank you for the complements Dave. A year and a half of looking at the Bud Select Transom can be a little discouraging. While both boats were running "poker run" power this weekend they seem to be evenly matched with each having their advantage in different areas. I have a slightly different view of Extreme class racing. This is literally the biggest baddest dog in the house and to claim that title there needs to be competition...in class competition. This will foster growth in the respective development programs. If one s looking for perfect parity than there are a host of very competitive classes to choose from.

Taking checkered flags with little or no competition has no honor and deserves little recognition. I would happily take a fifth place behind all of the boats listed above than a flag by myself Scotty B included. If the t-55 "drag" boats want to threaten to come and race on a closed course, we would welcome the competition with open arms and it just may mean we have to up our game. As you and I are keenly aware Extreme is not just a test of speed but of endurance with big power and management of that power into and out of the turns.

On this subject we will just have to agree to disagree. I still look to the entire Bud Race Team with admiration

I applaud Smitty for the iniatiave in putting us in the same class and by the looks of the poll it seems our fans and co-racers do too.

Best Regard's

Marc

I am sure what ever the number was, it had to be broken this weekend by both Miss Geico & Bud Select...

I don't even think that Dave ran the boat that fast before in (race trim).... ?

I heard Bud Select had a slight powerslide in the north turn...
That had to be insane at the speeds they are running...
I was thinking about Don Johnson's lap of 123mph back in the late 80s.

Was my 1st thought as well and then I remember having been parked in front of the Bacardi Silver at the NY Race....

Team USA did not finish the race that year. Johnson always wanted full throttle when the green flag dropped. Carrying too much weight in fuel at that point and puts alot of stress on the engines. As he found out....

Who really cares about what class they could of or should of been in. Most race fans don't know what class the boats are in any way's. What the race fans and everyone one else witnessed was one of the best races between these two powerhouse's of Offshore Powerboat Racing AMF and Budweiser Select. Fantastic race that kept everyone standing and cheering for their favorite boat. I'm glad that I was able to witness it. I also want to say that the spectator's saw some great racing by all the racer's in all the classes. They thought that they were seeing triple when they saw the Reliable Carriers fleet of boats churning up the St. Clair River and do you think that the fans knew what class they were in when they saw all the Reliable Carriers boats? There probably still trying to figure it out. It was a great race weekend and Congratulations to Miss Geico on her win and to the Budweiser Select Team for making this such a great race. Smitty, this was just great, for the fan's and Offshore Racing as a whole. Thanks to everyone for making this possible. I know that everyone echo's my feeling about this race.

The 2 best races I've seen this year were Piston vs Turbine. the first was in Detroit at the Gold cup Heat 3a or b not sure. But Ms Madison Oboy Oberto turbine & Cooper racing Chrystler Jeep piston Allison, was the best race of the weekend, If not one of the best Unlimited races I ever seen.

The same can be said for the Bud Select vs Ms Geico. It was a great race and the crowd loved it. And fast!!!! Even without the PA working on the shore everyone knew what was going on in that race, hard core fan or not.

It works in Unlimited Hydros why not in Offshore? I say bring it and lets see what happens.

Talking Lap Speed's ??????

I know if I were in their shoes, I would want the same thing. Racers need to measure up with experience to see if they are learning and improving. Sorry if I stole your thunder, The fans went nutz. I was in the crowd, never before have I seen a crowd so involved in a battle on the course. Congratulations to both teams, the fans got the show they deserve. The next Pro Series Race/ OPA race will be in Chatanooga. If you want we will separate the class. Thanks for your support, Smitty
Ed,(Smitty),
Did you get the lap speed's for that race?
Inquiring mind's want to know, I want to know!
Post them for me, my friend.
