Question Fastest Race in Offshore History !!!

Miss Geico turns up the heat on Bud Select in the Offshore Pro Series at the OPA Race in St Clair, Michigan Sunday July 29th, 2007

I am curious to know what the fans and the racers think of the Extreme Class Race this weekend.

Here we finally had the fastest offshore race boats in the world come head to head and both finishing under full power.

The heavier boat with turbine power Miss Geico vs the state of the art lighter boat with piston engines Bud Select. They both seemed evenly matched.

My question is, do you like these boats running against each other, or do you think they belong in 2 different classes ?

Extreme Class:
Should it be Cat vs Cat, Vee vs Vee or Cat vs Vee ?

I was at the race and I believe that was the best race. There were deck to deck for the first 4-5 laps. I dont what happen in the north turn to let Gieco get by and take off. The crowd was a buzz as both the boats came flying byeach time.

Bacardi Silver - Dave Scott & JT - Sept 2003

I am sure what ever the number was, it had to be broken this weekend by both Miss Geico & Bud Select...

I don't even think that Dave ran the boat that fast before in (race trim).... ?

I heard Bud Select had a slight powerslide in the north turn...
That had to be insane at the speeds they are running...

That was probably the best race that I have ever seen!!! Going down the backstretch both of those boats had to been around 190 MPH or maybe a little faster. Great Job Guys.

It was without a doubt the fastest offshore race in history. The Budweiser Select & Miss Geico boats were running 180~185+ down every straightway. Both Scotty & Marc did a fantastic job driving/throttling as well as their entire support team including John Arruda. That being said, piston boats should NOT be running in the same class as turbine powered boats. Two entirely different technologies/capabilities. If you think I am wrong, then just wait till Dave Callan & John Cosker bring out Miss Longlite or I bring out my turbine boat for a race. Both would obliverate the two Cat Extreme boats that just ran in St. Clair. If you have any doubt, then come to the LOTO Shootout. That is why both SBI/APBA & OSS have seperate Extreme classes. Doesn't mean you won't see the two classes competing. Just means that both of them deserve their own recognition for their efforts within their respective development programs. Just my .02!

Dave, I agree. I am sorry if I stepped out of line, just you have to look at it the way I did. Two guys in the Miss Gieco, with no where near the experience of you and Johnny, had an oportunity to run with the best. Clearly a dream come true. I know if I were in their shoes, I would want the same thing. Racers need to measure up with experience to see if they are learning and improving. Sorry if I stole your thunder, The fans went nutz. I was in the crowd, never before have I seen a crowd so involved in a battle on the course. Congratulations to both teams, the fans got the show they deserve. The next Pro Series Race/ OPA race will be in Chatanooga. If you want we will separate the class. Thanks for your support, Smitty
