Default Need some help from race teams

Attention race teams. I am looking for data on race cats. I am a grad student and am studying maneuvering of high speed cats in a high speed towing tank. I am specifically looking for speeds in turns, g forces, pitch, roll, yaw, lift, and side slip if possible. I know some teams have data loggers and that info would be greatly appreciated and will benefit the marine when the study is completed. Videos, either on board or not, would alse be a great help to disect the dynamics involved with a high speed turn.

I'll bite.

36 ft boat, 140mph~ 6ft model, 80 fps. Very reasonable for your tank. Would be cool to see how the model reacts in generated waves. Head on are simple, beam and quartering would be really interesting.

How do you replicate the turning conditions for maneuvering? Not too familiar with your tank, but PMM or similar apparatus with a fast enough transverse motion? How much tank width do you need to complete a component of a turn?

Do you have a hull from which to build a model? Have you been in touch with Skater, MTI, Michael Peters, etc for their thoughts?

I'm interested in the project, may even want to get involved somehow. I'm slammed at school this week, possibly talk on Friday or the weekend?

Any other information you can give out?

Also, I believe the Victory team developed a type of gyro-based controls for their boats...

We can develop the turning derivatives by running the model at a yaw angle. We also have a PMM system. I am also working on a proposal to send to some companies.
A good 6 ft model would cost about $10k though, so I'm starting smaller. if I get funding, I will have a bigger, accurate model cut. Getting a video/photos and data would give me better idea on where to start and what to focus on.

Yes...if they are that good then some intensive R&D must have gone into them. Somebody really knows what they are doing.

We have a CNC'd Foam 30' AMT from DW......it's about 6' long, you would probably have to pull a mold off of it......

My concern with yaw angle is providing clean air to the tunnel...that has not been disturbed by either sponson. What angle would be required?

Do you have plans to include control surfaces, like tabs or flaps? Seems like they can be attributed to many recent accidents. How much freedom would the model have to articulate on the pmm? Could you induce a blow over or trip and stuff and allow the model to fully complete it?

If your data collection system is self enclosed, (pelican box, internal battery preferred) it would be relatively easy to temporarily install in a boat. I would be able to help with this.
