Default Class 1 Boats Defect to USA

Was chatting with Bill yesterday and he was saying they are planning on running the Maritimo class 1 boat in the USA next season along with Hassan's Qatar 95 and 96. Should be some great racing over there. Bill mentioned they are just sorting out which series and races they are going to run with.

Watch this space. Seems like the world of powerboat racing just got a little smaller.

yes i also herd that from a reliable maritimo source, also cost a lot less ,its a logistic nightmare running class 1.the fact they are running the 1075 mercruiser is another factor, plus there will be more boats in the us instead of the 7 in class 1 at present.should be a good move imop

Class1 will always be the top dog and EXPENSIVE so to have that Class over in U.S. as it is would be great.
Do not Water them out with lesser engines, that happened already once when 1075´s became mandatory and Lambos obsolete.

The 750,850,and Class1 are all trying to work together to come up with something that works for them all to help the classes grow. Steve and Tony have also been working on a schedule to make it happen.

Looking forward to seeing them racing in the U.S. and hopefully they will make it down to the St. Clair River Classic in 2010.

Bills main interest (Bill is Bill Barry Cotter who owns Maritimo) is safety and he is frustrated at the lack of interest in it at Class 1. They are giving the 11 boat a good going over as soon as it gets back to OZ from Dubai and going to put a whole bunch of new improvements in it.

While the other Class 1 boats are going to Brazil Bill was saying they will make some mods, run it in a few races in OZ and then head to the USA with Hassan. Bill has even more motivation than many out there to make sure his boat is as safe as possible as his son Tom drives the 11 boat, and Leslie (his wife) would kill him should something happen to Tom

I have known Bill for about 20 years and he has always been one of the most passionate boat racers I have ever known and a very vocal one when it comes to safety.
