APBA Offshore 2004 Rules Released
The 2004 APBA Offshore Technical and Competition Rules are posted on www.apbaoffshore.com for download. As you will see there are many exciting new developments in the rules that are designed to enhance competition and give you a greater opportunity to guide the destiny of your chosen sport. Highlights include:
Technical Rules – 1. International Super Cat and Super Cat Light classes – In an effort to re-create a common specification between the premier UIM and APBA Offshore classes, APBA Offshore has boldly taken the initiative through the new International Super Cat and Super Cat Light classes. To encourage international participation, and attract those competitors to the United States the rules allow any drive system to satisfy their preference for shaft drives and rudder systems. These classes shall be offered at every APBA Offshore sanctioned event in 2004 along with the US version of Super Cat which shall remain unchanged from 2003 except for the elimination of shaft drive boats altogether. The intent of the rules is to encourage every team to convert to the UIM specification by the 2006 season. 2. Elimination of Shaft Drives from Super Cat – No shaft drive boats shall be eligible to compete in the U.S. version of the Super Cat class, however, they shall be eligible to compete in the UIM classes, which shall be offered at at all APBA Offshore sanctioned events in 2004. 3. Super Cat Light Drive Rules – The rules have been amended to allow crashboxes on boats using the #6SSM and Imco 4x4 drive systems. Weights for boats using the #6SSM drive have been reduced to 8350lbs. 4. Super V Drive Rules – The rules have been amended to allow crashboxes on boats using the #6SSM and Imco 4x4 drive systems. Competition Rules – 1. Professional Membership Class – A professional class of membership has been created to give the members a direct say in how APBA Offshore is managed. These members will have the right to elect a representative to the 3 person company board of directors that will operate and manage the business of the company. They also shall elect an Offshore Racing Commission to manage the racing side of the sport including the promulgation, amendment and enforcement of technical and competition rules. The fees generated by these memberships shall be used exclusively to produce television and to an annual high points fund for the professional teams, thus giving these members a financial stake in the outcome of the business and an incentive to ensure it is operated and managed in the best interests of the sport. 2. National Championships – The system for determining the national champions for the Super Series and Factory Series classes has been overhauled to increase competition and generate season long excitement for the fans and participants. Beginning in 2004 the national champions will be determined by a one race shootout among eligible teams. To determine the eligible teams, for example, if a total of 50 Super Cats attend the 5 races leading up to the National Championships Event, yielding an average of 10 boats/race, then the top 5 boats in terms of accumulated points over those races (or 50% of the 10 boat average per race) are thus, eligible to compete for the National Championship. The 2004 GMC Pro Grade Championship Series schedule shall be released on January 4, 2004. The season shall commence in Sarasota, Florida on May 14-16, and includes stops in Savannah during the Fourth of July holiday, Milwaukee in August and Ft. Lauderdale in September. The National Championships shall be held in St. Petersburg, Florida the weekend of October 15-17 and communications are underway to return to Key West for the annual APBA/UIM Offshore World Championships. |
It's spelled out in the Competition Rules. Look for the RED type.

I thought A class was coming back. anyone have input????
|
I'm missing something here. Am I reading that there will be two new classes this year? UIM SUPERCAT and UIM SUPERCAT LITE? It reads like Tommy Bahama with it's shaft drive will no longer be allowed to run in Superboat but instead will move over to UIM Supercat.
Did I get that right? UIM specs? don't they allow multi speed trannies? Do we really need two new classes? |
Ron,
It looks like they want to make it so the superboats can goto europe and race and the UIM boats from overseas can come over here and race in our races. Then by the 2006 season the APBA SC & SCL will convert to the UIM specs. Matt |
I better go read some rule books.
|
Mike,
Why did USA Offshore stop haveing at least one class that used the same criteria as UIM? Was it that we don't use the same technology here or visa-versa or some other reason? Matt |
now to point something out all the boats that ran super v with the bravos have to rerig ther boats for the six. you need what 50 hp to run through a #6 verses a bravo. if you decide to keep the bravo in rough races you're more likely to blow a drive. How is this leveling the field. This is all for four races or possible four races?????? they post possible key west are they kidding, with the new group let them in after this year????
|
When did the rule change?
|
What happened to these rules?http://www.biggerhammer.net/offshorepage/apba/
|
also, where is the info you got about "only four races"
Am I missing something? |
IN GENERAL DISCUSSION AREA UNDER MA AND APBA.IN THE BEGINNING OF THIS THREAD LAST PARAGRAPH. SARASOTA,SAVANNAH,MILWAUKEE,ST PETE. THEY SAY KEYWEST,BUT WE ALL NOW THATS NOT TRUE.
PHATOM YES I DO THREE COMPANYS TO BE EXACT. |
Originally posted by ScottB Outer, Help me out here, You accuse Mike A of lying about being out and I can't find the post where he says he is out. In post #34 he states he is in the process of getting all the way out. Not there yet. |
Originally posted by Grin&Barrett Why did USA Offshore stop haveing at least one class that used the same criteria as UIM? Was it that we don't use the same technology here or visa-versa or some other reason? Matt The rules for One Design are the same for UIM and APBA. We did this last year and many of them even plan on coming over here for the Worlds in 2004 or 2005. It just didn't work out this year when things changed. Should be interesting for the future though, even when we change our engines, we will make sure the guys over there can still compete. Chris |

You are wrong. I am far more disengaged from the sport now than at the same time last year. And I am working on a daily basis to get completely out. I realize it is not fast enough for some but trust me, I want to get out as badly as many want to see me leave and I am making every reasonable effort to accomodate them, fast. I have a multi-million doallr investment in this business which essentially has been destroyed. I spent a great deal of my own money to see that the racers had a place to race, had great sponsors and first class television. In the future I will spend that money on my family and maybe my own race team. I did the best I could and in the end it was not good enough. I am proud of everything our team accomplished over the last five years and I wish the future leaders of the sport the best of luck. I will also be willing to help in any way possible including disappearing entirely from the sport if that will help. |

I think you need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills Outer, or is it that you only see what you want to see. It is attacks and inuendos like yours that have created the Wet Pits |
YOU READ THE WAY YOU WANT, IF YOU COUNT KEY WEST THAT ASHAME. 4 SEASON ,ONE NATIONAL. WE'LL TALK AT THE END OF SEASON TO SEA HOW MANY GO OFF.
I JUS GOT A E-MAIL FROM THE PRIVATE CLUB,HE'S BACK IN CHARGE. YOU GO SPEND ALOT AND MONEY AND RACE HIS SITES,I'LL STAY POKER RUNNING. HOPEFULLY KILOKAT AND OTHERS WILL GET SOMETHING DONE AND UNIFY RACING INSTEAD OF RIPPING IT APART LIKE ALLWEIS. |
I am not pro APBA, SBI, Or OSS, nor am I anti APBA, SBI, Or OSS I am pro racing and have raced both SBI and APBA. I look for the best competition and fun for my $$.
I am anti BS, and that it what your two posts were You comments are a great help in unifying racing:rolleyes: |
STICK TO THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD, " APBA Offshore 2004 Rules Released."
|
now you're deleting my post,i was replying to some one.
half this post don't apply to the topic. sensor them to. |
i don't sea texas on there tenative schedule? What happened?
|
OUTER,
MY DELETE BUTTON IS ALMOST WORN OUT FROM EDITING EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD. YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SINGLED OUT..............YET. |
THE SCHEDULE DOESN'T COME OUT UNTIL JAN 4TH. WAIT AND SEE. I'M CROSSING MY FINGERS FOR CORPUS.
|
The schedule is not complete, it will be complete and released Jan 4th. If it was complete, it would be released today. I don't know for sure, but I think OSS is racing in Texas
You just love to stir the pot |
you deleted one of mine and i was nice, don't get it. sorry i jus don't like lying.I tell it as it is.
I appreciate your commit to racing and monitoring this forum. |
so now we're gonna have a third body or racing orgazation???? we're going the other direction.
I was trying to make a deal on a boat thats dead now. I'll still support it locally and do what i can,but i'm poker running and pacing. Hopefully it will come around. |
If Offshore is your passion as you have stated Scott,
Be constructive and not destructive |
Scott, Once again you are wrong, Mike A NEVER posted he was out. If you read the most recent announcement you would realize why he is not, as you would like to believe, "back in" , he is back to taking control of HIS company.
In the words of My Cousin Vinny " your argument doesn't hold water" |
mike a,
answer one question. Why can't you keep sites? This is not a attack. you say i'm ill-informed inform me and others. |
scottb i'm trying, but i hate lying and not to attack someone personally like mr. allweis did. SHOWS HIS CHARACTER. You have 3 successful businesses , a beatiful, very expensive boat, and a passion for racing. You have got the resources and desire to be a great asset to racing and help change it from the inside. Instead, you just bash from the outside. If you love offshore, get involved and work to change it. The wait and see attitude you seem to have is not helping |
If you became a pro member you could really take an active roll and you would be part of the group who shape the rules of racing
|
Originally posted by ScottB If you became a pro member you could really take an active roll and you would be part of the group who shape the rules of racing This seems to be a blend of old with the new. I would like to see if it will work. I think the racers need a voice not control. Matt |
I am not taking sides on this but Outer has some legitimate questions. I for one will race wherever TV coverage is the best and the most boats are.
|
I believe the promoter from Corpus Christy is now the new marketing director for the OSS guys. I also recall something about that race site still being under construction.
|
Powerboat mag said you stepped down.
I knew it was a SNOWBALL lie , You just said that you stepped down so the SUPER BOATS will come to OB. |
everyone is surprised at this...business as usual.
|
That's what i'm talking about. I've been bashed and personally attack because i didn't spell check or type to quick and post.
i jus want a answer and race in a body that has a level field and a set schedule. Is that too much to ask for. hauling trash has the right answer, thats all it was and thats what the sites see and they don't have them anymore. I thank you sauran for your response and look forward to compete againist you again soon. scott b I Thank-you for the completment. I don't want to get in the politics. I jus want to race with a body with rules and a set schedule. I got a phone call today and can be in a ol with a excellent throttle man like art lilly and race. Why should i do it? I think a person with as much control on the sport as allweis comes on here and personally attacks me should not be in control.I am embarassed that i let myself be involed. I should take the higher road like kiloKAT and jt and tom,but i call the kettle black when i sea it. I SEA HE DIDN'T ANSWER ME ON THE SUBJECT ON WHY THEY LOST THE SITES????? I spell somethings for a purpose see/sea jus/jus truckin. also scott i do more than this for racing i jus post the facts. I hope it all works out. If i'm at a run and you want a ride ask and if i have room i'll be more than happy to give a ride and talk. LETS UNIFY AND RACE!!!!!!! How we get it done is the powerball question?????? |
Powerboat mag said you stepped down. I knew it was a SNOWBALL lie , You just said that you stepped down so the SUPER BOATS will come to OB. Mike stepped down to appease the Supercats and they boycotted anyway ,so why not jump back in and take control of the business you own. I don't see they lie |
