Had a good conversation with John C. He's not sure why the dates got changed other than what was said in CROPBRA statement. I ask if he was willing to run a unified worlds under whatever sanctioning body had the stricktest rules and he said he was. He said the sticky point was the series sponsors with each of the sactioning bodies. He indicated no major sanctioning body sponsor would want to share the lead position for a World contest. More food for thought.

Jim

Just goes to show you that boat racing is a serious business. Something no racer should ever forget, no matter how much fun they are having.

Now I am confused, I thought OSS and SBI already sighned a letter of intent to race together.
when he says "no major sanctioning body would want to share the lead position for a world contest"

If they signed a letter of intent, then they ARE sharing the lead position for a world contest unless John C doesn't consider OSS a major sanctioning body.

Scott,

He didn't say the Sanctioning body had a problem with it he said the Main sponsors for each sanctioning body would have a problem shareing the spot light.

I'm asking this in all sincerity, but what "main sponsor" does SBI have that would have a problem sharing any spotlight? Would GM Vortec mind sharing any spotlight? As for Key West, it seems that the OSS group is merely racing at an SBI event, not sharing a world championship.
If the Conch Republic rescheduled the SBI race to the same weekend that APBA has already applied for, then it kinds sounds like the Conch Republic group will do whatever they want to do with whoever they want, regardless of who applied for permits first or who had the harbor cleared first.

Gordo,

Good question, maybe Flashwave could be more specific in quoting John C. I was wondering the same thing about Conch group also why are they requesting the change now after ABPA anounced those were the days they wanted to run their race. Is it that the city of Key West is only going to give one sanction and only on that weekend or is it some other agenda?

Folks, is it so hard to do just a little research, or at least read?

From the OSS clarification:

"On February 25, 2004 OSS received a request from CROPRA, to move the dates to November 14 - 21, 2004 as this date was better for the Coast Guard and the community of Key West."

Translation: CROPRA moved the dates because they were asked to do so. The Coast Guard and other entities of the community asked them to do so. CROPRA did as asked. SBI & OSS did likewise.

Also from the OSS clarification: "It is our understanding from CROPRA that no one, including any other organization, officially has funding or permits until April 7th, 2004 when the vote is taken. "

Translation: Permits? What permits?

Is that clear enough?

Yes Bertel,

I can read. Can you?

Clarification: I was not questioning OSS or SBI. I was questioning CROPRA, I did not read into it that they were asked to move their dates but they did so of their own choice after their discussions with the city and other officials. Are they saying that they hadn't had prier discussions before SBI posted their dates as 7th-14th, and that they decided only 2 days after APBA publicly announced their intentions of racing in Key West the 14th-23rd? Since you seem to know what the Conch group is thinking you would answer this question.

Could it be that the City of Key West wants to put a stop to the madness? Maybe they want one unified World Championship and this is thier way to force it to happen?
