We're at Torch right now and will be in the bay for the airshow. In my opinion Torch Lake is the Carribean of the north! You don't get water much clearer than it is.

Saw you lauching in Elk Rapids on Sat, nice boat! The air show was pretty neat!

Torch ended up great as usual. Athough my blower seized during a 95 mph pass. Thanks to Leo Wiseman and crew for supplying me with a new Weind 256! If you see this the check will be in the mail this afternoon.

Saw your boat on the sand bar. Nice boat, the sand bar was packed all weekend what a great time!

Was that you sitting at the marina just before the bridge on Friday? It sure was a great day! Although I was feeling a little old this year. LOL

I had a slip at Torch River Marine on the east side of the river. I know what you mean about feeling old.

Great vids. Certainly you guys took some photos up there on Torch...?

I will be passing through there myself this weekend on my way to Boyne Thunder.

Was Grand Traverse Bay packed with boats this year for the air show?

Yeah buddy there were alot of nice boats out there. The were also alot of sticks packed with a$$holes!:evilb:

Shawn D 07-08-2008 09:04 PM

Yes there were!! Lots of Boats on Saturday
We were right up on shore in the center. Waited til about 6:30 So the bay could lay down. Had a good ride out of the bay back to Charleviox. Once we were out of the bay, we were running with the sea in , I'd guess 2-3 footers. Hit round Lake by 7:30.

Great Show. Water was a bit chilly. But that made Charlevoix seem like Bath water on Sunday.

Along the shoreline there looked like a lot of boats. Out in the bay on the north side of the 'fly zone' I didn't think there was to many. Most of the boats (inc me) just floated as it was to deep to anchor.

Running back to Elk Rapids was a piece of cake. I came from behind, but was in the front of the pack by the time we passed Power Island. :evilb:

PS: Torch lake was PACKED all weekend. Cops (inc the State boys) were everywhere around the Torch river bridge. I can't imagine the pain trying to get back on the trailer at the end of the day - no thanks - to old for that anymore.

Thanks! Yes, we enjoyed the airshow too. We were on Torch Lake all week and down to the sand bar off and on. We are there every year for the week of the 4th among other weekends when we can. I was all week looking for other OSO boaters but with so many boats in the water it can be tough to single out just one! If you are a regular on Torch maybe we can hook up at the sand bar possibly.

scarab31 07-10-2008 11:50 AM

Torch Lake

Sound like a lot of us were all at the lake on Friday. Maybe next year pick a time slot to meet at the sand bar for a beer or two???

KAAMA 07-10-2008 12:08 PM

Is/are there any other special events going on up at Grand Traverse Bay or Torch Lake before Labor Day weekend?

BlackJack58 07-10-2008 12:44 PM

Go up to Little Traverse / Lake Charlevoix for Boyne Thunder.

Wife and I are heading up tomorrow (without the boat, unfortunately) but we are planning on stopping in Bellaire on Sunday to get a case of Short's Brewery beer...and then probably stopping at The Dockside at Torch/Clam River for Lunch on the way back home. I need more photos of Torch in my scrapbook...which goes back to 1962! :D

Here's my brother and I in '66 - and my own kids in '99. On Clam River where it flows into Torch...

That is a really cool set of pictures. I hope your kids get the next set made too. I like how the boat house roof has rusted and the trees grew.

Great moments I bet.

BlackJack58 07-10-2008 01:32 PM

Yeah - that first one was an early Polaroid (I think) and the other was a first generation digital - probably 320 x 240 resolution.

Looks like my older brother was expecting the water to rise....:D

We went for a rip to Power Island right after the show. Water didn't look big but it sure was sloppy and I had the boat out of the water more than in the water! LOL

Nope just a once a year kind of guy, I boat on the Southern Big Pond. Hopefully we will be up next year again, I will be at Hardy Dam for Hot Boat!

Maybe next year then. I too saw JRider out in front of our cabin moving across the lake pretty good.

Were there many boats anchored around Power Island when you got there? That is such a nice spot to hang out for a while.

It wasn't packed but there were quite a few, I'm guessing around 40 or so.
