Nice Boat! Head up to Traverse / Chain-O-lakes / Charlevoix-Petoskey region. The Chain would be nice for your boat - Torch is as beautiful as everyone says...stop at the sandbar, The Dockside and thre village of Alden. head down Clam Lake, through Grass River and into Bellaire--and be sure to hit Short's Brewery. Boyne Thunder Poker Run is the following weekend (11-12) - that would be great to watch, anyway.

Baja_Bigdog 06-21-2008 09:28 AM

Not sure when you will be here....but this is something to do...

Then there is "JobbieNooner"...

copiercat 06-21-2008 09:58 AM

that looks fun, but i think im bringing the wrong hardware for that. would my stv be too small ? i still have a couple friends from there to stay with (i hope)

Baja_Bigdog 06-21-2008 10:36 AM

People take boats of all sizes....shouldn't be a problem unless the wind kicks up.

Contact Dave "Irishtornado" here or on the St. clare site....he knows everyone and could probably help you out with riding on someones boat if the weather gets bad.

KAAMA 06-21-2008 12:17 PM

If you've never been to Torch Lake then this would be a great time for you to go! You will love it up there! It almost makes boating down here seem worthless!

JRider 06-21-2008 12:32 PM

I will be up @ torch lake for the 2nd thru the 6th. All of what Blackjack58 said is true. I own an HST and have owned an STV Euro. You will be able to run them on about any lake except for Lake MI. I have ran them @ hardy, torch and indian river with no issue. There are a lot stvs and Mirages @ hardy but the sand bar on torch is spectacular (on the 4th it is down right crazy!!!)! You can watch the Boyne poker from the inland water but most likely the Lake MI water would be a little big for the Euro. I can PM you my number if you want to look me up. I will be in the Boyne Poker run also.

Anybody else going to torch for the 4th?

JB4Boyne 06-23-2008 12:57 PM

I think there is some of us rafting up on Lake Charlevoix on the 4th for the fireworks in Boyne and then going down to Traverse City for the Blue Angels air show on the 5th

Dreamer1q 06-23-2008 01:38 PM

I will be in Grand Haven for the fountian for the kids on the 4th.

But if you want to be around more boats like yours I would head to Hardy. There are always a gaggle of STV's up on the sand bar. The river is almost always perfect for those quick little Shi*s.

Magic is part of our group...should be a great time, about 5 or 6 boats coming from our area!:ernaehrung004:

I highly recommend going to Torch for the 4th. My parents have always kept their boat at the Torch River Marina, and also have a place up there. It is absolutely nuts up their on the 4th. Have fun, since I don't think I can make it this year.

I wish gas was so damn expensive as i would love to drag the ocean express, but have to settle for 115 mph in the Euro (little yellow ****) but hope to see some of you out running.. if you see me first wave me down..
Scott

Freeryd 06-25-2008 12:36 AM

The sand bar is FUN! I'd consider going again...given the wind was blowing UNDER 35mph and the temps climb above 65, unlike last time.
What DAY are you guys all going to be partying? Will you be there on the 4th itself? or would you go saturday the 5th?
I'm just wondering when the BIG party will be going on. Also, i'm wanting to make the run to TC for the Blue Angels, and then be in BC for the firework raft-up. Let me know guys!

JRider 06-25-2008 05:38 AM

Given the 4th falls on Friday I would say both Fri and Sat will be crazy. I will be there Wed thru Sun..

As others have said Torch is awesome! Problem is, once you go to Torch not too much compares after that!

Freeryd 06-26-2008 07:42 PM

So, 2 yrs ago when i went to Torch...it was a bad day for the weather. cold, rainy, and very windy! Let's say it's the complete opposite of that and nice and hot out...do you see much skin at the sand bar?!?!?!?! here's why i ask, i'm 27 frickin years old and i'm not gettin any younger guys! LOL what's it got to offer me if i drive the 1.5 hours down there???

Depends on what you mean by "skin". Not too much titty flashing but there is usually plenty of hotties running around! :cool-smiley-011:

Not to mention beautiful water and plenty of room to blow the cobwebs out! I usually find some good runs there.

Freeryd 06-26-2008 08:59 PM

yea, you knew what i meant by "skin"! LOL. I'm not sure if i'll make the run down there, or just stay up on my home waters of Lake Charlevoix. I guess i'll just wait and see what the weather is doing and how I feel the morning of. If anyone's coming up to Lk. Char, let me know!

All the places these guys are reccomending are great places to boat (I personally boat at all of them) but I think they failed to pay ANY attention to the boat you will be driving. As far as Charlevoix, cheboygan, burt lake, mullet, higgins,lk stclaire-these lakes are great places BUT get some wind and large boat traffic and almost always have some waves going on,1-2 footers are almost a every day occurence. Torch seems to be calmer because the wind often comes out of the west south/west and the west side is high enough to protect the lake somewhat. Hardy pond is about the only place I see STV's running on a regular basis because if its rough out you can go up river and race/run and if its calm out you can run from one ernd to the other (I see the stv's come out in the evening once the water lays down) Smitty

Freeryd, I can tell you that if the weather is nice the sandbar will be ROCKIN!

dennis r 06-27-2008 05:20 PM

I will be at Hardy Dam staying at Brower Park

copiercat 06-27-2008 08:30 PM

whats Brower Park ?

dennis r 06-27-2008 09:37 PM

Its a county camp ground it has a lot of hot boats there from time to time.

Brower park is the mecosta county campground that is in the center of most activity at Hardy Pond (Muskegon River),just a few miles off US131 near the Stanwood Mi exit (about 50 miles north of Grand Rapids). Its a great place to camp (IF you like to camp) or just to launch your boat for the day. The Muskegon river wraps around 3/4's of the park and when your on shore you have a excellent view of the boats ripping by. I know your up here on business so this doesn't appy to you but I will say it for others thinking of going there-they do NOT allow pets so if you show up with your family dog they won't let you in the park,Smitty

Bill, you only live 30 miles north of Torch and U only have 1 small town to go thru, so if it take U 1.5 hours to get there U need to get rid of that Chevy:p

Magic Medicine 06-28-2008 01:17 PM

Hardy is a great time, not sure I will make it up there this yea, maybe for Hot Boat. I have a full boating schedule and I will be at LOTO for Labor Day weekend.

Dreamer1q 06-29-2008 06:31 PM

You will see Skin at Hardy, either on the sand bar or in consumers cove. But Hot Boat is when you will see the most skin up there. First weekend after Labor Day every year. Well worth the time, last year was awesome!
