Ok. Got the new boat, but no trailer yet. Looking to do a little trip. From the charts I have it looks to be 109 miles from our marina (Sassy's) to the Cedar Point Marina. Is this a pretty good trip to do? How long does it take to cross Lake Erie (on average I know it can get rough). Thought we'd hit Kelly's for a day on the way back. How is the Cedar Point marina? How long should the whole trip take? Average speed I would like to hold around 40mph because that's my most economical cruise.

Yeah it is. Thanks! Love it so far. No trailer this year, but will have one next spring. I've always spent a lot of time on Lake Charlevoix, Torch, Lake MI, both TC bays as we have a place in Kalkaska. Really sucks I can't use the new boat up there this year. I could always drive it there i guess

I leave Marine City and goto Put in bay which is right next to Kelleys Usually run about 50 and it takes about 2 hrs total. Cedar Point isn't that much further. I would guess it to be no more than 50 miles from the mouth of Detroit River. You always want to travel early on Lake Erie. Not very clam most of the time. Your boat you will be fine to cross. Any other questions I will be glad to help. Mark

I have an 380 Avenger (1995) in Sassy's as well, it was too much after two years of draging that thing from Macomb twp to St clair I had enough, and paid for the rack. I have also draged it up to Suttons bay twice, it is a bit of a challenge with Mi road construction, just do it in the middle of the night when the yo yo's are off the road. But as far as going to ceder point, that a very easy great trip, last year we went to put-in-bay once for a quick drink, and retuned the same day, and for an overnighter, great trip, as long as it is not blowing to bad, but that boat is a lot of fun in Lake Mi, with 3 to 5's, just make sure your gps is on, and you are paying attention, lot of hassards from the St. Clair river to Erie.

NK congratulations on the boat you will have so many options since you went with a 38, where in MI do you live??
We used to keep our 40 Scarab at Sassy's, it was nice because they would let us use one of their wells to overnight if we wanted to. Since we live in Waterford it seems to only take us about 15 min longer to get to Monroe or Erie Metro Park then it does to get to Metro, so we now tow the Black Thunder everywhere, it can be a pain but the convenience of having the boat at our home helps sure helps with the maintenance
We belong to LEOPA which is a Lake Erie club so we go there a lot, recently we have not seen very much flat water, so pay very close attention to the weather reports and make arrangements JUST IN CASE you can not travel home on your last day. We were there two weeks ago and ran over in the morning in 4 footers, only to be greeted with 6 plus on the return trip. We were in Kellys for the day and were going to stop at the Bay for dinner, everyone in the marina was trying to convince us to stay, we met many people that had turned around and went back to PIB. We went anyway but it was scary and we did not see another boat from Put In Bay until we were less than a mile outside of Monroe, and this was Sunday when a lot of boats are usually returning. Ian takes some medicine everyday and I always pack extra just in case we wind up spending the night. Last year we were going to the islands on a LEOPA weekend with a Power Play, a 38'Cig and a Active Thunder, everyone but us turned around and went back home, I wanted to but not Ian, we made it but a few weeks later had an, expensive problem with an outdrive, that was most likely caused by all the pounding. I don't want to scare you, but just be flexible, and remember once you are in the middle of the lake there is no midway stopping points because you cut across on an angle and don't get near the Toledo shore. I would suggest you try to travel with at least one other boat and make sure your radio is working and that you have really good charts and hopefully a GPS. Also if you are interested LEOPA has a labor day weekend at Kelly's Island, we stay in a marina Sat and Sunday night, have a big barbeque on Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon have a fun golf cart poker run around the island. Good way to become acquainted with all the bars on the island
There is an excellent fall poker run the following weekend, we overnight at the Ford Yacht club and head down towards lake St Clair, aside from the gas it is a big bargain we stay at the Yacht Club for free and lunch and dinner is usually included for the entry fee of about $50.00 (for two)
I reread my post and I feel bad making it sound so bad because we have gone over and back on days when it has been very calm, but you never know.
