The Redbull air races are approaching very fast. They are June 13 & 14. They are officially in Windsor, but you will be able to watch from the Detroit side as well. There are General admission tickets only for the Detroit side, available on www.redbullairrace.com (for land viewers)
We will be there on the water, with a front row seat.
Hopefully some of us can meet up, and go and watch the action!

We'll be at the Cove in Ontario for the weekend, heading into the River for the air races then back to the Cove. Last year we anchored at the south end of Belle Isle and had a great view.

Well I dont know if this effects any viewing of the races... members that have gone before, can you tell us if you can still see the planes from outside of the restricted zones?
Boat traffic will be banned or limited along a portion of the Detroit River during the annual Red Bull Air Races from Thursday through Sunday.
The Red Bull Air Race series is an international series of competitions, usually over water, in which pilots race small planes around pylons and other obstacles on what amounts to a racetrack in the air.
The U.S. Coast Guard will be enforcing the safety zone under the plane's racecourse while the planes are flying. The zone on the U.S. side of the river is roughly between the Joe Louis Arena and Chene Park. The Windsor Port Authority and Canadian Coast Guard will enforce a similar boat ban in that zone on the Canadian side of the river.
The enforcement schedule is as follows:
• Commercial vehicles only during practices from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
• No vessel movement during race days, from 12:30 to 6:15 p.m. Saturday (with possible commercial-vessel-only traffic from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.), and no vessel movement from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday.

We went last year and anchored at the west end of the no traffic line, was a great event and you can see pretty good, just bring lots of anchor line and get all the way up there. The pre show will be right over your head and was great last year.

West end would be on the Lake Erie side....
We sat on the Lake St. Clair end last year, pretty decent view!! Kinda hard to see how the course is set up from the ends though....if you haven't gone, I would suggest making the trip down!!
Last year the wind messed up the Saturday run so not sure how much flying they actually do on Saturday.
Get down there early and anchor right on the edge of the zone...current is strong so once a bunch of boats get in there its not fun trying to anchor!!!
Have fun........
