Is the restaurant/bar called "BROWNS" still around??? I thought it was kind of a neat place for boaters to dock at, however docking was a little to be desired from what I remember....I think it is up a river a few miles or so not too far from Muskamoot Bay. I was only there once back in 2001 with my boat.

Hopefully the new owners of Jack's on St Clair , turn it back to what it was a few years ago..., a cool hang out for boaters, I hate how they ruined the bar atmosphere by replacing the bar stools w/low seating, & low quality food I enjoy sitting up & seeing the boat traffic ect.
I couldn't agee more! for the past 8yrs I've been going there twice during the week and usually once on the weekend always on the boat. last year a I think I was there 3 times total! place sucked!!! Doubt they will change it back but there's always hope...

Browns is a great place! Cheap drinks, good people, and some great tail to pick up! Docks suck bad and there's always a Sherriff patrolling the middle channel. I do go there but rarely induldge because they are just waiting for ya...

It's really tough to compare the two... It's like saying which is the better fruit, the apple or the orange. Jacks is much more upscale and more pricey, and the crowd is more hit and miss. There are lot more "pretenders" (people that claim they have a 50' yacht and drive an '82 Chevette) at Jacks, as its in S.C.S, while Browns is on an Island. Browns is 10X's more casual, and the crowd is much more laid back, probably because the majority of people that go there make the trip by boat. Jacks gets a fair amount of boat traffic, but most people come by way of a car.
The girls that get off of the boats at Jacks are more likely to have on high heels, whereas there usually isn't a girl in all of Browns with high heels on. That about sums it up...

Nice thing is if you go there to party the night away you can crash on the boat. You can't do that at Beach Grill, it's just past Jacks and alot nicer/upscale than both. Pull up a chart because you need to stay in the markers going into the middle channel. I was with some of the downriver crew last weekend and we're planning on doing a few get togethers up here this summer you guys are welcome also

I guess my answer would be yes and no. Yes because of the extra living space it has. We spend a lot of time on it, just about every weekend, even if we don't go any where we'll stay overnight at the dock. It too is fully loaded so the TV is a nice perk even though that's not what I go down to the boat to do. Just having standing head room is great. Crouching down or walking around on your knees in the Scarab for 10 years was getting old. And the lack of walk around room in the cockpit was a little hard to handle when you had to try to squeeze by each other. Not to mention the sun deck and the swim platform. So in that respect I'm happy with it but as far as speed is concerned like I said I sure miss those turbos. Top speen is only about 60 from what I was told. I don't quite know yet because I've never had the GPS out when I took her there. But she's runnin a little rich so I need to dial her in a little better. The Scarab had the twin turbos that I could stay out of until I needed them but it was hard to get on plane too because it was set up for top speed with custom cleavers and #2 SSM lowers. The only other thing is she has a few more amennities than I need (Gen. Air) but they're there if I find a reason for them. So over all I guess I'm satisfied. And like I said it kept me out of one of those big, slow, ugly, cruisers.
