We have been boating SS Marie the last few years. We stay on the river one mile from the locks. Its amazing you can travel thru the locks free of charge in these days. We run up to Whitefish and down to Detour. Its an amazing place with lots to see. Munising is still our fav.

Another thing about Superior is if you're alone and fall in the water far from shore you don't need a life jacket, hypothermia will get you

Another thing about Lake Superior, it feeds the rest of the great lakes. So a little snow or rain in your local area is not going to make a dent in the low water levels. We need major snow runoff this spring into Lake Superior!

No problem, is was an Email from a good friend of mine that lives in Acme / Grand traverse.

I sure hope Superior feels like sharing some water with us down here this year!! My local lake is down about 17" from 2011. That limits me to Lake Mi. or Huron only! Really makes it difficult to test & tune when big water is 2 hours away

I am East of Toronto, seems like we are getting "some" snow this year, and I hear things "Up North" are pretty good, unlike last year when people where mowing there lawns in January, lol

Water levels last Fall where SCARY low where I boat (St Lawrence) so I am hoping for lots of snow this winter.

Superior is a beautiful lake, the scenery is stunning, the fall colors are something EVERYONE should see at least once.

BUT, you don't want to be ANYWHERE offshore on that lake when the water/weather gets nasty. I have a friend who worked on the Lake boats his whole life, I remember him saying to me "Son, you have NO idea what big water is until you have sailed on Superior"

That maximum wave height seems questionable. I copied this from a Wisconsin web site: "Maximum Wave Height Recorded: 51 feet near Whitefish Bay".

51! thats crazy, either way 31 or 51 im not making it out of that one alive. Ill be like a kid that cant skate at the skating rink sticking VERY close to the edge if when I go boating there this season

A couple perks I've noticed about boating on superior
-Deep water, no need to really watch you depth finder, if your 1/2 mile offshore the only way your running aground.......is because it sticks out of the water......BIG ROCK
-the water is cold enough there is no need for bottom paint. I kept my last boat in seasonally. The scum line I scrubbed offwith a brush. No chems nothing.......and it was still white.

I get to drive along a 5 mile strecth of superior shoreline everyday........The power of that lake some winter mornings is chilling when its storming.

I keep thinking about putting on a poker run based out of the marquette area.......It would definately be a true "Offshore" run if the weather picked up
