Hey SP 388 - Pretty impressive speed at 101. Was that the top and what rpm? Doesn't look like you held it there that long. Also, I just bought a 2000 388 with 500efi's. Looking for more outta mine and was wondering if you could tell me what else, beside the whipples you've done to your motors. Thanks!

101 is around 5800-5900 bravo one 4 blade stock prop,w/ 1.30 gear,Prop slip is way up there, ive hit 102 a few times on light fuel, turn props in ran 105 6000rpm,just be careful above 95,here is a thread on my engine build up, it should give you most info ya need or hollar with any questions,Also if your buying Whipple,Mark at precision marine has the maps and can dyno you combination
I just bought a set of Herring 5 blade 28s,not sure if im going to be able to turn 6000rpm with these, ill try when it gets cooler and low on fuel before i put it up for the winter at 765hp w/ 28p 4b bravo one props it ran 99 at 5900 at 848hp w/ 32p 4b bravo one props ran 102 5700 on a good day other wise props seemed to big 2010 rebuild on ethanol it made 883hp at 6000 last rebuild and new design whipples the boost jumped to 9-10 from 8.4. I had to buy new pulleys to slow it back down.it sure felt strong at that boost!! ,but would need race gas to run at that boost. Also i would say anything above 750hp you will have out drive problems. Hope this helps Rob http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...-build-up.html http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...tq-839-hp.html http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...hours-bad.html |

I read a lot from the 45 pages and need to go back and read more, but did not see an answer to how one asked you about getting water to your inner cooler. Is it transom pickup or 2nd stage pump? Anyways, I am thinking of doing a winter project with mine similiar to what you have undertaken. Great Job Rob! - Thanks again Gary |
I took a Teague tube style and redesigned /shortened it, I have a cad drawing, I tried to get teague to make me one shorter because alot of hulls need the shorter version, after i made mine I think they started makeing them, that would be the cheaper route.
at first I was going to put 2 pickup one for each innercooler, i even had bought 2 from teague and them bought a kit not put together, I ended up changing the j tube to a sharper raduis ,theirs a tread i did on hydrodynamics/fluids, trying to find out if the tighter radius would hurt flow, i ended up making it anyway, Then Dustin Whipple said that use the one pickup going into one strainer then coming out of the strainer with 2 # 12 ,that it would have plenty of flow, I was worried about having to hand it deep in the water, hearing all the stories of them slowing boat down a good bit, I couldn't tell any diff but never did any back to back test, its shooting water out the side pretty far and its hanging down about 1/2 ,ill have to measure make sure, if you do your if you can cut a tunnel in the bottom so you can recess the pick up more, also on a myco trailer the bunk would hit the pick up, i had to mod the trailer some, on my other style pickup i felt it didnt have enough water going thru the innercoolers, but it never hurt anything , but it was good insurance. another buddy was doing his hustler at the same time and did use the longer pickup, but he laid it more sideways and hes is running alot faster than mine, sorry for jumping around above, never really couldn't tell a story in the right order, lol ill did up some picks what ll in did with the pick ups, |
