Default Can't get insureance...1989 Baja 280 Sport HELP!

I don't know why I am having such a hard time. I insure everything with allstate, they said no way period as the boat is to much hp.

Boat US says ok but requires a survey, I would prefer not paying for that.

Geico took my money already and now says the boat can only be insured by them during land storage. They will not cover it in the water unless they get a letter from Baja saying that it is ok to have the hp i have.Good ole Baja is out of business and the fools that make them now are no help as they don't even know what my hull is.

Funny thing is that I am trying to insure it as having stock 502 mags. I don't know what to do....

Are they confusing displacement with horse power? That might explain things.... the other issue would be that they cannot find any reference to the engines as original equipment. 89 280 would have come with
2x260 or 2x330?

I had a friend that just got insurance on his outlaw. Went from sea worthy (who classified it as a performance) boat) to farmers. Said the prce was decent -.but I have no history on their claim handling.

The boat originally came with 454 mags which were 365hp each. I told them ahead of time it now had been repowered with 502's. They said that made no difference. After taking my years payment in full a week later all this nonsense starts when I get a letter saying their underwriter has decided to change the policy. Is that even legal?

Is it legal? Depends on your lawyer! lol insurance companies are a pain in the a $$I with boats anymore. Look up Sue Doyle on facebook - farmers insurance - and see what she has to offer. You don't know until you try!

Thanks, I originally told my allstate agent that the boat had modified engines and before I could even get to the actual hp on them he said no. I guess your supposed to just say that they are the factory installed engines and never been touched? I was already feeling a little unsettled about saying 502 mags but thought they would hang up on me if I told them they were over 500hp each...

I did get a call back from the company, now they say that since "Baja Boats" went out of business they would settle for me taking the boat to any marine mechanic and have them send a letter to them on company letter head stating that the boat is safe to be operated with the engines in it. Now I just need a mechanic who will stick his neck out and write that letter.

Foremost, is the underwriter for Farmers and do a good job, never a problem with HP, when the new motors went in they just increased the policy amount to cover the expense of the new motors.

Any real marine insurance company (that will actually pay a claim) is going to require a survey. It's for your own benefit and would aid in selling down the road.
