Cool....glad you like them. How close is the blue to the interior color? If you get a chance take a pic of one next to your seat. I'm just curious....

I don't know man...what are you thinking?

Philm 07-01-2010 07:29 PM

Well it appears that Sunday will be early, if we are all meeting up at 11 or so. Might put in fairly early on Saturday and just hang out at Lloyds, maybe noon.

What did you have in mind?

I might have to work some Saturday. Not sure yet. Sunday it looks like 10:30 at TP and off to Wild Duck. When do you leave? Are you going out Monday too?

No, having them set at 18 was actually better for the life of the motor. The reason it blew was because 175# springs were used even though everything called for 225# springs with that amount of lift, solid lifters, duration, and ramp rates. It was a ticking time bomb until a valve floated and kissed a piston.

Dont even get me started about all the other stuff that was done wrong, some of it can be attributed to different engine building theories, but other things cannot. For example, the bolts for the Jesel belt drive were a tad too long, which was solved by doubling the gaskets under it, which then caused it to hit the back of the crossover, which was solved by putting three gaskets under that. Instead of just trimming the bolts, it was done half assed. Ring gaps set at 35-40 thousandths, and leaking down at 10-13% with 59 hours on it. The explanation given for the 6" breather extensions and STILL blowing a quart of oil out into the bilge every two hours? Crank windage.... For comparison, we are now running the exact same lower setup, pistons, crank, ect., but 22-23thousandths rig gaps, no breather extensions, and ZERO oil on the valve covers. Even though we upped the compression to just shy of 10:1. What happened to that windage you ask???? Same question I had.

See you got me started, and I am not even done.

Let's just say that I am very glad I didnt spend that kind of money getting it built only to have it last 59 hours, only to find out that it was from all signs a piss poor build job. To their credit, the bottom end clearances were spot on. With the setup in it now, We are pretty confident we will get a few hundred hours before refreshing the top end. A lot better than them telling me I should bring it up at 75 hours to do the top end. 75 HOURS!! A 1500 Sterling goes longer than that.

Philm,
Not starting trying to start a chit show either. I am interested though considering I have the same problem happening with less than 15 hours. It's not overrevving either because I put a 5600 rev limiter chip in.
