Good point- The lavey 29 is beautiful, and I know the brand so I know what you'd be getting for the money.
I went to the sunsation site and the links don't work so I cant really find out what Id like to know to determine what it really is. and I dont see much detail discussion on their boards here...........
Maybe you could tell me (or someone) then I can figure out how close that boat is in the auction to what the Lavey offers. I am not slamming or praising anyone, Id just like to know how sunsation builds their boats
Does sunsation vacuum bag- Or hand layup?
Is the swim step included in the length, or the nose?
What is the oa length?
What is the core material of the boat foam or balsa - depending on what then what material exactly or weight ?
Are the two halves of the boat joined while in the mold - or are they removed and aligned later.
How much wood other than maybe core is in the boat, and where?
Is the boat fully interlined?
How much time is spent curing in the mold?
Is this an in house design- who designed the mold. How old is the mold?
Is the finish paint- or gelcoat? Stickers? done in house?
Is it custom or will you see yourself 10 time every weekend.
How many boats do they build per year?
what is their hull warranty?
How exactly are the seats bolted down?
How long have the people running sunsation been there, and how long have they been in business. Is the guy that sold this boat still there?
Is every boat built by staff employees or do they use part time piece workers?
Who makes the interior?
The Sunsation looks very nice, and Ive never heard anything bad about them, so I couldn't tell you if 50K is what it should be, or if its a deal.
Just Curious- id like to know.........

I'll try and answer what I can.
The swimstep is in the length, so it's more like a 30'. It's a hand layup, custom build with paint. The painter, Mitcher T, has a very good rep. Their is some reuse of designs, but you won't see them everywhere like a production boat. The interiors are done by McLeod and are very nice, but with a smaller/limited cabin in the Dominator models compared to the newer SS.
They are built here in MI, and have a fulltime staff I believe. They are run by two brothers that have the best customer service out there (I'd guess better than Lavey's which I know West coast people love). They've been around for a long time and will continue to be. Everything I've read indicates fit and finish to be very good. Basically, they are custom built to order and sold through dealerships and run fast with moderate speed.
If you want your questions answered, their forum on their site is pretty active, and the owners themselves will most likely inform you. Their fans are more like fanatics, and you never hear too much bad. For me, being in the East (MI), there'd be considerably easier resale, but then again there are quite a few Sun's on my lake being the home team so a Lavey would stand out. Basically, Lavey is the only West Coast boat I'm interested in, other than cats.
As for the price, as that's an auction it will most likely go in the 40's. I think that's the "fair" price these days, but if you price them on Boattrader, etc, that is a steal. As a bonus, I really like the paint on that one, which is rare. Now if I could just get the clowns at the place to confirm it's still for sale, and/or return a damn call.
