If you are going to get your top power past 5500 mech.is the only way to go in my book,if its int. ballance.I built 2 540 engs.1 mech.and 1 hyd.and the mech.realy comes alive between 5500 and 6500,but being ext, bal.dont live to long. Then i built a merlyn 3 block,a lot heavier and straiter blk. then the merlyn 2 and and went hyd.and held the rpms at 5500.I have never run this one in Vixen so i really cant say how the two compair.I did put it in my soninlaws 28 phantom for last years Sarr.race and also did the testing before the race and was very happy with its perf. Now the phantom is about 400# lighter then Vixen so she would probably be a little slower but i think still make a P4 boat, but just guessing on this. Nocig.dont want to sound like i know everything but the first thing i would do is get rid of that circ.pump and go to a crossover you dont need it and it makes a lot of drag. Then i would get a set of CMI exhsts.with dry pipes if you dont mind the noise, or wet pipes and straiten out them tail pipes. From your post thats one H of an engine but in order to to use all them good parts you need a good exh.to make that baby breath.Just a couple things i been thrue and found will make the extra hp.But dont forget,20 HP in a boat dont realy mean a lot. Thanks mel i always appreciate your input, i new before i asked you were going to tell me the exhaust, but i did not realize that about the crossover....The exhaust isnt in the budget until mid summer, so i kind of have to go with what i have for know.......You just cant ever set enough money aside for this stuff, someting always comes up/.....

Nocig. The exh.isnt that important if your keeping it a pleasure boat and dont need that last little bit.We run a set of stainless marine the first year and they were ok but when we started running higher rpms we changed to the cmi and dry pipes. The big thing is that circ.pump, you cant beleive the power that thing steals.I would have even done away with the alt.but couldnt hold enough juice for a full race.I see Magnum 27 just finished his first race in Miami,if you read this post 27 CONGRADULATIONS Mel
