Areo Marine ??
#161
Well guys thanks for all the great info!!! It looks like the Magnum project will have to wait for now. I really could not find a good Magnum project in my price range. Plus I really want a single engine boat. Looks like only the Areo Marine copies had singles and per the advice from you guys I stayed away from them.
Not all is bad though as I picked up a killer 1979 custom 24 Pantera!! So at least its old school.

I OWNED THE FASTEST AERO EVER BUILT..TWIN HARDIN MARINES, 454 WITH 425 HP, STERNPOWER RACE DRIVES AND THAT BOAT WAS CLOCKED AT 84 MPH...THE DRIVES ARE BULLET PROOF..BUT THE BOAT WAS TOO HEAVY IN THE ASS AND DANCED LIKE A FAT BOWL OF JELLO...NO TABS, ONLY BLIND STUPIDITY...PROBLEM WAS WITH THE STRINGERS NOT HAVING DRAIN HOLES IN THE HIGH STRINGERS, HELD WATER AND GOT SOFT, THE MOLD IS HERE IN MICHIGAN AND RETOOLED WITH A SMALL PAD AND A FEW OTHER QUIRKS, ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING BOAT, EVERYONE WANTS A RIDE, AND THEY ARE JUST A HAIR LONGER THAN A MAGNUM...BUT ABSOLUTELY NO BLUE BOOK VALUE...MY OLD BOAT IS HERE IN MICHIGAN MINUS THE ENGINES..ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL BOAT, NEEDS SMALL BLOCKS AND PROBABLY STRINGERS SOON....ONLY ABOUT 4 OR 5 GRAND WITH TRAILER...GOOD LUCK DRIVE SMART
Sorry, I couldn't resist. "Lil Miss Dangerous", which later became "Predator", ran 87-89 all day in race form. This included a heavy lay-up hull, a non-anticipated hull repair after blowing the side out in Cleveland (8 footers), 100 gallon forward ballast tank, 100 gallon fuel, speedmaster #2's, communicaters, safety gear, etc. and three not so skinny crew members. High point champions, Great Lakes Trophy winner and National Champions in 'B" class made all the Clem-gem owners (and Magnum) proud. I think you remember the boat very well H2oboater (Hi Mark). My, those were fun years. Expensive-of course. But how many can say they achieved the same? I wish I could afford to do it again....fun!

Last I heard, it indeed was racing in the east coast series under the Mr. Zip banner. That was 10+ years ago now. Not sure if it sank, is racing or rotting away behind someones pole-barn as many do. Forgot to mention another small achievement with that Predator boat...World Championship in sportsman 'B', along with the other accomplishments. Cool.
