Need some help from you engine experts....1973 25 Magnum Sport.fresh water with a SS 300 HP Scorpion Crusader # 40152 with a 270 T Volvo drive.I have been told this motor is based on a small block LT Corvette .need to know is it worth refreshing and what can be done to increase HP...or is it better to put in a big block which means new exhaust and plugging current ones etc.

it has an auto cast intake, auto distributor w/vacuum can and an automotive quadrajet.... may be nothing more than a 350/300 car engine... the LT1 engines had solid lifters up to '72 then hyd from 73-on... if it's a flat top small crown w/ 4 valve reliefs its 10.25 comp, if it's a flat top, crown, with 2 valve reliefs, it's about 9.5 comp, dished was 8.5 comp.

Great engines. Had 2 in my Magnum. They are basicaly 350-300's/ They do have 4 bolts and pink rods. mine had forged pistons and 194 valves. The most redeeming feature of your engine is the exhaust manifolds. they are monel and were made by Riva Boat Co. in Monte Carlo. Good luck
