Jim you are right, they transom # started in 1973. I have two 1973 Magnums & one 1973 X-18 Donzi they all have transom #. Ironhead has two magnums, Anaconda & Subluxator, the yellow Subluxator is a 1972 & no hull Id # on the transom. Here is a pic of her when new @ Emerald City from 1972.

Hey Mark abit off topic here, but i'm glad you posted some pictures of Subluxator with it's V windshield.........I have the same deck on my sport but without the original windshield.
Most V deck 27 sports i've seen look out of proportion with the high windshield, but Subluxator looks more in proportion.....is that a stock windshield?........Haven't decided on a windscreen yet, but Subluxator (with it's light colored hullside) carry's that windshield pretty nice!

Pete that is a stock windshield, & Subluxator was the very first Mag Emerald city sold. Take a look at these Vee windshield Mags, the one with the bow rail looks real tall ??. Mark

The boat with the bow rail has a flat screen windshield, looks to be mounted where a Sport windscreen is installed, so the side panels are shorter with steeper angles . . . Top edge of that had to be "in your face" . This flat screen was usually used on some sedans . ..

Mario.....I didn't noticed that before in regards to the sport with the large flate windshield....I assumed it to be a V deck now it makes sense why height and angle are extreme.

Mark.....For my taste, LI'L SMIDGIN has a suitable lower lifeline with the windshield a tad too high .....Grashopper has (or seems to be) a lower windsheild, but the lifeline is too tall.
I guess functionality comes into place here on lifeline height or was there a tech height to meet on racing?
As for the 2 different deck types offered by Magnum?........I know the V deck sport was offered early (like Mario's and also Mark mentioned Emerald city "Subulaxator") why the choice?
i've never heard the conversation mentioned why Magnum sold 2 different deck type 27 sports...was it function or just styling?........just curious to the marketing difference if any.

I'd venture this was driven by simple cost availability of windshields from outside manufacturers. I figure this was an easy way to increase market share / sales as a family boat. The Vee Magnum 27 was merely a deck overlay, a small separate piece ahead of the stock Sport windscreen. Back then 50 mph in your face was kind of not accepted . . sunglasses would get sucked off your face, and in the 27 we're all way above deck and exposed . .

I don't know, but my guess would be the v windshield was a factory option, I don't think there were many made compared to the total number of sports. (maybe 10-15%) I think they are pretty cool looking but wouldn't want one that tall for myself. I do get blasted in my boat though...
