Mark,

That's what your Cobra has.
Ian, spring is here. It will now be warmer here than England until the end of October.
The water is still too hard to go boating though.

Jeff you are right but my Cobra has Volvo 270 drives. The tie bar still mounts on the top of the drive. This is a bad pic of the wing plates & you cant see much, but it's the only pic I have of them. They may be the same ones used for the newer Volvo drives. Jeff as you know I don't see this Cobra every day. Heck last time I looked at it was last year, :picard1: it's on the back burner for restoration.

Well, I had been dreading pulling the fuel tanks, as they still had gas in them, (By my estimation at least 6 years old) One was showing 3/4 full and the other 1/2. I finally said enough is enough, and rigged up an electric pump to drain them, amazingly the fuel didn't smell bad, but has a definite amber tone to it, I rounded up a bunch of 5 gallon Jerry cans and all told pumped about 60 gallons out of her. My neighbor stopped by and took a can, filled his lawnmower and a beater car he has with it and they both run!!
The second reason I was putting this off is I was worried about how hared they would be to remove. A 10" blade on my sawzall made short work of the foam and they popped right out! They were replaced in 1995 according to the stickers on the tanks. They are 6061 Aluminum. How should I go about cleaning them? I will post a question in the Tech forum on that. Anyway, they look to be in great shape, and obviously don't leak.

Bottom is actually cleaner than the top:

Next step will be to clean the tanks, clean the bilge, and strip the bottom paint off the hull, fill the holes in the hull from the old toilet system, and paint the bilge and hull sides.

I've been tied up on other projects around the house, and putting my tow rig together, but I did drop the boat off yesterday at the blaster to get the bottom paint stripped off the hull, and i ordered my new Faria Instruments for the dash. I will post some pictures this weekend, but it feels good to be making a little more progress on the boat regardless.

This is a great thread for us Magnum Newbies Murfman! Spent a couple of hours reading through it this morning (when I should have been working on my boat!) Lots of great info from the Magnum family here!

I too am a magnum newbie. I was lucky enough to ride to Bimini from Ft Lauderdale in one that a friend of my uncle had back when I was 8 years old, and wanted one ever since. I had a 25' Nova and thoroughly enjoyed it, but it wasn't a Magnum.

Back from the stripper... And the boat is back from the blaster as well. LoL

Now it's sand sand sand, spray gel sand sand sand, spray more gel, sand sand sand, mask, paint, sand sand buff...

I foresee sore arms and shoulders in my future

Anyone ever flipped a Magnum hull over to refinish the bottom? I'd like to do it and have an idea for the transom using my forklift and a modified engine stand pivot, but cant seem to figure anything out for the bow.

Any ideas on what a stripped sedan hull and deck weigh?
