Great job...need to come down and see the project in person. Bud
|
nice job that's exactly how I did mine
|
Without Glassdave's guidance I would have even considered doing this. It's a learning experience and I'm really enjoying it.
|
And Bud, stop by whenever.
|
Took the clamps off and filled in the edges with more VE and Core Bond today. thanks again for the tech help Dave!

A couple of suggestions ...Move the exhaust as high as you can get them to go,because if you stop to soon will get a back wash and the back end and exhaust will take on water. More pronounced in the Sport, not prevalent in the Sedan Also I assume you will be moving up the drives, there has been a lot of discussion on that point ,easily to research. Bud My
My 2nd one on to Ft Myers today. |
Yeah, as far as the exhaust I will at least be upgrading to the center dump manifolds or possibly the American HiTek ones (those are the only upgrades available for the Chrysler engines). I will be raising the X along with installing the SP style transom assemblies. I couldn't believe the exhaust was mounted so low on the transom. The top of the tips were even with the water line. The were completely submerged and this is the only area of the transom to get wet. I glassed and tabbed the transom in 2 layers of 1708 and an additional 8" wide tab around the perimeter for both layers. I also used some. Ore bond to laminate another 1/2" layer of Okoume plywood to
What was left of my firewall. Added a lip for the remove able section to set against. |

I'll get more pics tomorrow. This is after the first layer and tabbing. And I did level out the air pocket at the top left before it set up. |
I filled the rat hole with layers of mat and resin until it was level with the plywood. Dave said I could leave it recessed but I wanted the transom to be evened out there. It took an extra 2 days to let it cure but I'm not in a big rush. I used up all my 1708 so I ordered another 5 yards today to do my stringers and firewall for the engine compartment.

Got the reinforcement for the firewall cut and core bonded to the boat covered it with the remaining 1708 I had on the back side and some roving strand on the front side just to seal it. It's going to be painted and covered by the removable panel when done. I tabbed it to the hull sides and the existing bulkhead/firewall and it i s rock solid. Feels stronger than the original as it was poorly tabbed and pretty flexible
