Lake Norman boating
#12
We live on Lake Norman and have been boating on it for about 5 years. It is a man made lake with many different areas. A lot of areas to explore and plenty of open areas to go fast. It can get crowded on the weekends, but it is a big lake; just need to pay attention and watch for people who do not understand how to boat. I have never had any probs with sound levels. We had dry exhaust on a 502 and none of the sheriffs or fish and game ever bother us, even when idling by them. They have talked about it, but so far I don't think there is a noise ordinance. A lot of go fast boats on the lake.
Bars: Vinnies Raw Bar, Rusty Rudder, Queens Landing, the Hotel Bar, and a couple others by the 150 bridge. Holidays can get crazy on the lake.

I live 5 minutes from LKN and boat there. Used to live on the lake so spent some time on it although only been in the area 4 years.
GPS is a good idea, its easy to get lost at first. If you launch at Blythe Landing (10 mins off exit 25 off I-77) be a little careful at tieing up some of the slips closer to land, it can get shallow depending on your ride. Like a dumbass, I dinged a prop before I figured that out.
Its a man made lake with levels controlled by the hydro power station dam, so unless there's a drought the lake levels stay pretty consistent throughout the summer.
Water is clear and warm, sometimes gets a little red close to shore if you're on a beach during a busy weekend day.
Bars and restaurants, there are enough to keep you entertained. Google Rusty Rudder, Queens Landing, Vinnies,
they're some of my more common stops. Here's a link that might help you out a bit: http://lakenormanboatersguide.com/node/33
Generally very nice people on Lake Norman. You can run into anyone from a bass fisherman to a Nascar driver depending on the day. Typical Southern friendly folks.
PM me if you like when you come down. If I'm not out of town playing race cars be more than happy to show you around

Whats a good marina if we want to stay on the boat. Can we crash on the boat at the bars overnight if we over indulge.
Thanks
