I'm going to try and get down in time for the run but not 100% positive I will make it down to VA in time for the run.

Sydwayz,

I have been down here the last few days looking for a house. I used the agent you recommended, she is great! And worked very hard. The market was so tough down here everything she showed me was great and then when I went to make a move on a house the listing agent said the house was not available anymore. We were both getting annoyed. I ended up finding a house by military owner today. I thanked Kelly for here hard work and will use her again if we decide to buy or end up needing another rental. I found a great house in the Elizabeth Manor golf course subdivision, I think I was very lucky to find it! I can't wait to move down here. We will be down here July 1rst. The boating looks great down here! I saw lots of nice boats when I was near the water! I can't wait looks like a lot more fun than boating on the lake! Kelly showed me the portsmouth city park boat launch, it looks like a very nice park and facility. Can't wait to start boating with everyone down here!!!

I'm here! Got in yesterday evening! Got my first day of work tomorrow and the movers will also be here tomorrow! So I will be unpacking this weekend and next week. I would like to get out on the water next weekend! I haven't bought charts or a chart plotter yet for the area (just got a basic Garmin GPS right now). I will do that next week. I think I need a chart plotter for this area because it seems like boating will be a lot different than boating on a lake LOL!

I just looked that up on Google. Do you use the boat launch there and then camp out on the boat or at a campsite? The website says only boats to 28 no problem for me but you got a 38! So I guess the launch is nice? Any noise restrictions? I don't have silent choice.

How many people in the Portsmouth area use the Portsmouth City boat launch? I live about 3 miles from it, I drove by it and it looks nice but do I have to worry about tides and water levels? Or is there a better place to launch in the Portsmouth area?

As long as the wind is out of the SW all is good, Anything out of the NE/ N no water. When we camp we use the ramp and hang out at the boat all day. When we are not camping I use Centerville Waterway Marina's ramp and run down. Portsmouth City Park ramp is nice low waret can be tricky.

I've used it several times. With your size boat and it being a straight bottom, you should have no issue no matter what the tide, albeit you may need 4x4 to get up the slick ramp at low tide. If it is low tide, you will want to just nudge in when coming in, shut the boat off and walk it the rest of the way to the ramp. Same goes for launching at low tide. It's shallow until you get to the end.

The neighborhood is not so nice, but the park is clean and well kept. The local cops are very nice to the boaters and like to chill-out back there so there is usually a police presence in or nearby; but don't ask me how I know that.

I've used Portsmouth several times as well ( probably the same weekends Brian and Joby were there!! ). One other thing I would caution is that it is very steep - caused me to have an issue with my bow coming in UNDER the bump stop. I had to undo the stop and seat the boat then bolt the stop back on. I sorted that out by having a split bump stop made instead of those traditional little Teflon bumps. My trailer should have come with that from the get go though
