anyone going? it is in the alton pool or pool 26 check out
riverbills.com

fireguy 06-08-2010 05:48 PM

Trying to get more info on it now. Myself and all of my buddies should be there.

Alton pool and pool 26 are pretty much the same thing. From Lock and Dam 26 (Alton) to Lock and Dam 25 (Winfield).

Sounds like it si going to be right in front of My River Home and the Our Lady of the Rivers monument.

fireguy 06-08-2010 06:05 PM

Starting just downstream from My River Home to just upstream from the Venetian.

For any of you that don't know, this is a fundraiser for the Backstoppers, a fantastic organization that helps the families of Fire Fighters and Police Officers killed in the line of duty.

dlange 06-08-2010 09:32 PM

im there

Keytime 06-08-2010 10:30 PM

Just glancing, but it looks like it's run a lot like the LOTO Shootout.

Sounds fun.

Wild 06-09-2010 08:11 AM

if anyone goes, please get some pics, may try and do it next year since its in my back yard. Have never heard anything about it before now, great cause

redwavecrash 06-09-2010 09:18 PM

im pretty sure its the first year. there's allways a few poker runs but never a shootout. never heard of any of the bands playing but i have seen joe dirt a few times and they are good . but i plan on being on the water all day anchored down. i hope there is a good turn out and see some fast passes

B_Schutz 06-09-2010 10:48 PM

I will prob be down there its just too close to home!

redwavecrash 06-10-2010 07:09 AM

there is a nice public ramp right up from the shootout and
its free and has a nice dock called hideaway harbor its a st. charles county park

fireguy 06-10-2010 04:57 PM

I will try to get some more info, I am going to try to make one of their planning meetings, but I think the guy I talked to said Hideaway Harbor is going to be reservec for all the boats in the shootout that day.

I believe the park is where they are having all the land based spectators.

redwavecrash 06-10-2010 08:24 PM

land spectators can watch from liberty harbor they are hosting the event. you can vist http://riversedgemag.com/indexlibertyharbor.htm to get the band line up and the whole days schedule. hideaway harbor is a public access ramp.

Any idea how many boats are signed up to race?

stlliberator 06-14-2010 09:13 PM

anyone know what classes there are? You think they are goint to allow boats to tie up and watch? All it talks about is how much it is to pay to get tickets to watch...

There's a registration form on the link that explains the classes.

It is intended to be a summertime fundraiser to augment the Backstoppers annual Thanksgiving eve Guns and Hoses Boxing
Event.

Some guys that used to work on the DSRA shootout on the Mississippi in the St. Louis area are working on it. The meetings are every thursday night and I am working thursdays right now so it would be July 1st before I can make a meeting.

redwavecrash 06-27-2010 02:31 PM

september 11

Who,s Ya Daddy 07-06-2010 10:45 PM

New date works better for me keep us posted on date

fireguy 07-12-2010 06:21 PM

Waiting for confirmation from one of the organizers but Spet. 11th seems to be the new date.

mreedy 07-14-2010 09:20 PM

I'll be keeping an eye on that date. I used to keep my prev boat in My River Home, boated pool 26 and just loved it there.
Was there the 2nd week of june but weather spoiled our boating.
Fixxxer22, we'll have to get together sometime as were in the same pool. I am pretty new to the area as I just recently moved up here from pool 26. I'm the only Nordic up here so you shouldnt be able to miss me.

I think this is the first year that it benefits the Backstoppers, but in the 1990's the DSRA organized a shootout about every year for Make-a-Wish Foundation. It was a great time. I ran in it most every year in my Talon 22. It was at several different locations on pool 26. Spectators could anchor all along the run. No heavy hitters there like the LOTO shootout. More of your typical hot rod, daily driver types...:drink:

25 eliminator 07-27-2010 09:05 AM

Is it a shoot out or a course?

In the past it was a straight shot radar run about a 1/2 mile long. They would record your top speed. Here is a pic when it was held in front of Lake Center Marina.

Coolerman 07-27-2010 07:53 PM

Is it still going to be a half-mile? This could be fun! Is it from a dead stop?

fireguy 07-30-2010 09:57 PM

I have some of the new stuff on .pdf but I cant copy them to the forum.

RVRCAT28 08-02-2010 07:54 AM

I have seen the course map, and it looks like a quarter mile run up to the half
mile course. We lobbied for a fairly long run up to the half mile. 9-11 is the date.

redwavecrash 08-26-2010 08:19 AM

thursday night before the shoot out all the boats that are
makeing runs are going to be down on main street st. charles from like five to eight or nine i think.

fireguy 08-30-2010 02:13 PM

Gheez, are we gonna have enough water???

Until August we could not get out of our marina and were having to use the public ramp in Alton because the water was too high. Now it is too low.

mreedy 08-30-2010 03:32 PM

My last trip there in june I had to deal with the low waters @ alton. How about the ramps in grafton?
If I get good news from my marina shop tomorrow I plan on being there for the races.

Wild 08-30-2010 09:17 PM

Speedy will be there for both the street party and the race

26offshore 08-31-2010 07:03 PM

We are thinking about coming and wanted to know some details. Where is a good place to stay? Where can we launch the boat and what time does the shootout start?

we are planning on attending to view. Not sure if we will drag the boat home or not. What ramp would one use for a 36' V bottom to launch?

Other wise I might try to hitch a ride with someone that boats on the river.

I would look at Alton Il for lodging. Alton marina is nice and if low water becomes a problem there are 2 other ramps right along river road that is close proximity to Portage Des Sioux. Piasa creek and graftons harbor.
All race details are here:
http://www.backstoppersboatrace.com/LINKS-INFO.html

That is my old home town and I'm really hoping to make it if I can get my boat fixed in time..

The question I had myself for someone is, what is deadline for registration if you wanted to run?

mreedy 08-31-2010 08:35 PM

Here is an awsome map that shows the the 3 Il marinas (Alton, Piasa, Grafton) in relationship to race site, Portage Des Sioux.

http://www.visitalton.com/pdfs/BywayBoatingMap.pdf

Baywatch there are always someone at Alton or Grafton to let you know about water depths for launching that 36.
