55 MTI "Jaws"

Wish i had my camera out at the Casino in the Erie islands sunday. A local guy just got a 55 MTI with quad 1075's and all i can say is unreal, the name of the boat is Jaws and i believe its owned by Dennis Kaiser. Its the first 55 i've seen that is one big azz boat

anybody got any pics of it?

Wasn't his last boat a 46Skater?

Gotta love those 55MTIs, but FOUR 1075s??? Four motors will cost $100,000 on the Merc factory fresh program. Why not two 1800hp T53-703s?

buttonhead40 09-02-2008 02:15 AM

quad merc 1200's, good for 150+mph

glassdave 09-02-2008 09:23 AM

Top end I believe about 150-155mph. I could be wrong but heard from a pretty reliable source!

paint job was kinda weak but thats splitting hairs. its still an incredible piece, that thing really dominates a dock when it pulls in.

anybody have any other pics? the bilge was closed while it was there.

Spine Tingler 09-02-2008 06:24 PM

That would be a condo traveling at 150+!:p

See pic in post 16, one in front of other with a long driveshaft..

4 1075's is a 2K an hour operating cost just for maintenance (4 100 hr. services at 26K each). That is a sick cat but at that point the turbines look reasonable!

wouldn't it be closer to 1k/hr or am I figuring wrong?

its less than that as well since its not 26k... but yeah, even at 104K for 100 hours you don't need a calculator to figure that one out... :drink:

and turbines aren't for everybody, some guys love the sound of pistons, not too mention things like having merc dealers close for warranty stuff, insurance, ease of use...

I'm all for the rumble of piston engines over the scream of turbines....

That would be a funny call to my insurance guy....

Yes, 55' Cat....

Yes, 4300 Horsepower....

the bear 09-05-2008 01:58 PM

So it has 4 individual drives? Or is two engines coupled to the same drive?

Sean H 09-05-2008 02:09 PM

4 6's

The blowup of the engine room in pic 17 looks like inline motors. How can four drives work with an inline setup?

Full Force 09-22-2008 04:36 PM

Saw it last sat.... that is a sweet ride!!

Coolerman 09-22-2008 11:17 PM

Is it still 55 without the shaft drives or is it a bit shorter?

No shaft drives. It is a #6 boat. The hull is 55'

Believe it or not the fuel economy of 1075's are incredible. Efi tecnology is the way to go. It seemed in a couple of boats I've owned with 900hp blower motors with old technology that they would drink twice the fuel of my merc 1075's.

I wonder if on idiling and docking if he shuts down the two middle engines. Would the boat get on plane with just two engines??? Come on Frankie give us the details. Meaning if one engine broke would you shut off the other engine on the other side and be able to run just 2 of the 4. I would think 3 of the 4 wold really screw up handeling and would be better just to do 2 out of 4 in a pinch????
