Default Oil Cooler Installation Ideas

I will be installing this Hardin Marine thermostatically controlled oil cooler:
http://www.hardin-marine.com/detail~ID~858.aspx

The current oil system routing is a stock 2004 496HO with the exception of an aluminum oil filter bracket that came with the DANA Vortex Torque Flow exhaust system which did retain the stock oil filter location and hoses.

I am very interested in any and all layouts and experiences, especially with pictures of any and all add on oil cooler installs especially that are hull/floor mounted I would prefer to retain the existing oil filter mounting and remove the stock 496HO oil cooler but I am interested in anything others have done.

Nordic Rage and Nordic Heat installs are particularly of interest.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not falmilure with the 496,. Mine a 500efi, I mounted mine to the 2 upper bellhousing bolts.made a little extension to raise it some,Mine also has a 1/2 spacer to space the cooler back some. there a lot of wire in that area on the 500.My oil thermostat on on the port side.

the other pick is using the 2 block upper holes, not mine

Hope this gives ya some ideas

Thanks Rob. Very helpful.
What are you referencing here: "the other pick is using the 2 block upper holes"?

Mine uses the bellhousion to block bolt holes, around 2 1/2 x3/8 bolt, because I needed the space up and out, the other that uses just the 2 upper block holes was made by a friend , he didn't need the clearance, so he had a tighter, more com pack looking install.

My bracket ,plate steel silver color.mounted to the oil cooler c clamps.

also try and get the One that have the o ring in the clamp mine doesn't ,I put some black tape trying to cushion the cooler, mine dents it some

I'm not good at whats in my head then putting it into print

oil thermostat pick

Hey Strip,
Very nice work!!
Guess you spoke with my buddy Jason about the Slingshot 540/Whipple 4.0 builds I'll be doing for him.
Hopefully you won't mind if I pick your brain a bit about the rigging in that boat

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks again Rob.

I was luckly enough to be along when Jason checked out the Hustler Slingshot. A very cool boat. I was instantly envious.
