Any one that knows me, knows I'm a stickler(sp) for data and accuracy. I make my living doing this. One thing I've learned from talking with all these folks around the country. Weather and water conditions make huge differences. So, trying to compare Chris's, Steve's and my numbers doesn't always work. I've run on Lake Cumberland (where Steve boats a lot) and seen speeds 3-4 MPH faster than I ever saw at my home lake.
I've set up and run quite a few Rage's and Heats. I know those boats very well. You are correct that you cannot compare the 2 boats. The Rage is about 8 mph faster than the Heat and runs much less prop slip with all else being equal. Just my 2 cents worth.
I've tried my best to show that your numbers are indeed mathematically possible. However would you please clarify if that speed is on GPS or not. With the HP you're running, 93 is an exceptional speed based on my experience. Also, where are you boating and what kind of weather conditions?
I've never run a P5X on a Rage. I'm guessing a 31 at 5300 would still be around 93 +/-. My Heat spun a 29 P5X at 6200 and 95 mph. What did you think about the P5X on the Rage?

I apppeciate your honesty and unbiased opinions.
Lake Havasu is where my boat has been run recently. The conditions there were 80F (air) and about 65F water. Wind was not an issue.
The P5X I ran was a bone stock 31 from Hydromotive-according to the prop man I bought it from. My thoughts, it was not much different from a Bravo4. Probably what I would have expected from a 32 Bravo. Acceleration was a bit less, but the 7lbs of boost kept my pickup OK. Slip was a bit less out of the hole and cornering. On top it was a couple mph faster than my 30P.

I can't say I noticed any listing or leaning. Are you talking at high speed? I used to have a fast Allison outboard that would lay over on the drivers side at 95mph if I did not have a passenger to keep it level. Is that what you are refering to?
I did notice the prop ran smoother at idle and seemed to be faster as well (at idle).

On my Heat.. at top speed.. 88mph and above... I find a Bravo prop to be much more stable than a P5x. The P5x will rock from side to side, like it is rolling to the left, and then correcting itself. Not as bad as chine walk by any means... just not rock steady like the bravo's are.
Also, with my current engine setup, and playing with spacers, the fastest I have had my 32 pitch bravo at was 91mph, and the fastest I have had my 30 pitch P5x is 93mph. The P5x is a couple mph faster everywhere.
I am interested to see how the boat handles as I increase speeds this next year.
The 111-112 mph Heat spins a Merc lab 30 with a 1.35 gear.
He has yet to try a P5x

Hey Dave (NordicFlame), you have a buddy with a Rage that you've driven some. If my memory serves me you said it ran 75 with a stock HO. What prop and RPM did it run? I'm assuming a 28" Bravo. Interstingly Nordic ships most midcabin Rages with a 26" prop from the factory. Maybe the closed bows are that much faster. Always trying to gather information...LOL
Sorry I didn't see this.
Yes we ran 75-76 pretty easy but it was a stock 26 on the rev limiter inside the break waters on salt water in 55 degree fog (sea level obviously). This was on the way out to Catalina Island testing for the Cataline ski race with 4 big guys and full tanks and not much trim. With this same boat I could pull the owner skiing at 67-68 for a half hour to an hour at a time at 5000 feet.
All hand held GPS.

My motor has not been dyno'd so I can't get specific on hp. My engine builder thinks I have way over 700hp but that is speculation based on his experience. How much power did you have in the 95mph Heat? I liked the P5, but wished I had a chance to compare it to a 32 Bravo. Propman actually had a 32 Bravo as well as the P5X but the Bravo had been pitched up a bit to like 33 and I thought it would be too much. It was my last day at the lake and after the P5 worked well I thought I better buy it because I would not be back for months and it could be gone (it was only $700-I thought that was a deal?). I will try the 32 if it is still there in Feb or Mar or whenever we get back on the water.
Speaking of props we spent some time in the Herring trailer at Key West. We gave you a good plug Chris re their props.
We also talked with Julie Croce of Throttle Up. They are merging with a large aerospace CNC manufacturer in Palm Bay called SAI, who makes stuff for NASA. She says they will be able to access their engineering and turn out some really cool stuff going forward. Same phone # (I think) as before 321-837-0500.
Best Regards and Happy Thanksgiving everyone,
Steve

The engine in the Heat made 925 on my dyno. The 496 I built for 22DAYTONA made 655. It had stock heads and exhaust with a forged rotating assembly and Raylar blower cam. What parts are in your engine? Stock heads? I would expect about a 30 HP gain with the CMI over stock on your engine. So, depending on cam and heads 700 is realistic.

So, if you calculate those slip numbers it is around 10-11%. That's the point I've been trying to make. The Rage doesn't have near the prop slip of the Heat(with stock props). Obviously 1000 lbs difference in weight and 3 ft. of length makes a big difference.
