wiring harness problem
#1
Hi Guys and Merc/Nordic dealers,
I have run into a very annoying problem on my 575 engine wiring harness (BTW looks just like the 500EFI harness).
The 10 amp fuel pump fuse is blowing as soon as I go to ignition on. I have diagnosed a direct to ground short in this circuit. Everything else on the motor and boat works perfectly.
The motor will turn over. The electric fuel pump runs when bypassed at the relay. I've tried a new relay, no difference.
We did just have the motor out for a new coupler. Reinstalled as usual. I've looked for loose and/or pinched wires, nothing.
It seems like the short is in the engine harness.
Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Steve

Sounds like coil side of the relay if you can run without relay. Probably has a common source of power for relay coil/pump. Remove relay and meter coil side to ground (smaller gauge wire, not pump power).
Don't know the wire harness, but this is a good educated guess.
