600sci - Whipple Stage X
#1
My 600sci is down at the Whipple compound...just finishing up on the final stage of the upgrades for the 600sci, 662sci, and 700sci motors. We are calling this Stage X
Motor upgrades:
4.0 Whipple Supercharger
Whipple MOAC innercooler
KE plate oil cooler
Stock heads ported by Chapman Racing
Jessel shaft rockers
Morel Lifters
Custom Whipple Cam
Crank triggered ignition with individual coils
Callies 1/4 inch stroker crank (540 cu/in)
Oliver rods
Custom JE pistons (8.2 compression)
Dual stage water pump.
Whipple PCM re-program
We are hoping to make between 1000 and 1050 horsepower with under 10 lbs of boost so as to run on 91 octane 10% ethanol fuel.
At this point, the limiting factors will be the heads and stock GM, Gen 6 block.
Ahhh well... that will be for another day... A good set of heads and a Dart block at around 565 cu/inches.
I will keep you updated.

Here we go again!!! Looks like another project for the winter. Is 110 the new goal ??? How have things been on the other side of the state??? I hope that work has been good for you. I think that every house in seattle need a new custom deck!!! keep in touch.

Im guessing that the 540 will give me a consistant 4-5 mph over the 502 motor.
Work is going good. My company dropped about 40% in buisness between 2008 and 2009. We have come up about 20% for 2010. I think the other 20%, to get us back where we were before... is going to be a few years in the coming.
I hope you are busy as well.

Final dyno results are in on Whipple 600sci Stage X motor:
1067 hp @ 6200 rpm
972 ft/lbs of torque at 3750 rpm
torque at 6200 rpm is 903 ft/lbs
Wowser!!!
I think I am going to have to re-prop.

Chris, Great job! Those are some killer numbers!
I'm also impressed with your ignition upgrade. Is your crank triggered CNP ignition running 496 coils without a distributor? Also, what size KE plate cooler do you plan to run?

Slip on that boat is about 10%, and due to me using Merc lab props with such a high x-dimension on my boat... my slip is typically about 14%-19%. The SCX also has a built in drive oil cooler.

The KE oil cooler is a 13 plate.

That sounds good. I hope that Whipple goes to distributerless on all of its Merc Racing supercharger packages. I hate the idea of going backwards to a distributer just to add a supercharger--the Merc setup looks better.
