I just used finished plywood. Marine grade only means its doesn't have gaps in the layers for bending on a contour (not water resistant according to the guru at dunn lumber) then I painted the base gloss black to seal it up. I moved the battery switch out front cause I switch to 1 battery every time I shut off the motor w the stereo on and got tired of asking back seat passengers to move for access to the switch under the seat

I considered cutting the seat cushion into 3 pieces since the area in the middle is the only spot that needs to fold fw now w the sub boxes on either side. Then the smaller cusion over the sub boxes could be fixed and an easy landing spot off the dock or sunpad

I hear you on the battery switch. Maybe I will have to work in a trick little door or something and mount it up front, but hidden. Another thing I want to redo is my carpet. I do not like the tan that is in there, but with the older heats, its not a snap in setup either :( We will see how that works out. I know this may be a long shot, but you dont happen to have CAD drawings for that setup you did, do you?

Nice work Ned. Great idea on the sub boxes. That should rock!
My friend Butch has 3 down firing 12s in his rear bench, and it really sounds great. Since the entire seat base is enclosed, he doesn't have any storage there, and he has to install and remove batteries through the engine compartment.
You have the enclosures, still have some storage (you can never have enough), and have battery and engine access.

Well, I am looking froward to getting home and doing this myself. I am a draftsman that was pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree, so I like to draw things out. Who knows, maybe I can market something someday lol. My father in law is a wood working guru, and I love to design stereo stuff....hmmm, I may be on to something here.

You store your amps underneath the rear bench? Are they sealed in? Got any pics? Sorry for all the questions.

Yea, they are inside the storage area... i've got one on each side, mounted to the sub box side. no pics and my boat is all wrapped up for the winter... i have to get in there at some point tho to take some pics of the gauges i'm going to sell... so i'll try and take a couple then...

i put provisions (3" hole w/ a hole saw) behind the vinyl on the face of the back seat base (between the subs) for some fans but the amps don't seem to get very warm so i decided to just leave it as is.
