I have run my 2003 Heat in the ocean on the West Coast and it does fine until the 3.5-4 footers come around.

It has a Raylar 525 that has been bulletproof. It tops out at 72mph with a stock prop on it. It can do more if you give up the incredible low end acceleration. I beat my Dad's 21 footer out of the hole.

It is going up for sale soon. It also has a beautiful custom Pacific C channel aluminum trailer which is perfect for use in salt. Let me know if you are interested. The only picture I have online isn;t so great ,but gives you an idea of how it looks.

Let me know if you want more pictures. It will be priced to sell quickly.

I have been thinking about selling my 2009 rage. It has the 525 and is loaded with about every option, few rages have the extras my boat has. It ran 82.5 mph when tested by powerboat magazine in 2009. PM me if you are interested and I will shoot you some pics and talk more details.

Nordics are not Ocean boats. Maybe some of the bigger models but seriously, it's a river/lake boat.

I sold my Heat after running it on Long Island Sound a few years...it's just not the right product for tougher conditions.

What options do you have in yours?

Where were you this spring when I bought mine? Don't get me wrong, I love my new rage but your boat is sick. You probably won't find another one optioned like that for sale.

Well now I'm concerned that the rage won't be big enough for us. Not having a boat large enough to do the Bahamas trip is ok, but is the rage big enough to do a trip to the Keys from Miami? If not would a Heat be a good choice for a trip like that. With us living in south florida the trip to the Keys will be one that we do often so we want a boat that's safe and comfortable for that trip. With that being said what's the speed of a Heat with the 496 HO and the Merc 525 EFI? Both in stock form.

Thanks for all the good advice.

I love my rage, it's a solid boat but I wouldn't make any runs like that with it. Just my opinion.

The Heat is NOT an ocean hull...please stop. It has a shallow entry, 22 degree hull, pad bottom. Unless they've re-vamped the boat for offshore conditions just use it on a lake please. 28' for that run is small anyway, you'd want twins...at least that's what I'd do. Running outside is serious stuff.

My Heat had a 496 HO and saw 67 ONCE, never to be duplicated. That was a cool day, in 1s-2s, less than 1/4 tank, one person, with the tide and wind. Mostly 62-64 and I tried 4 different props, labbed and stock.

If you want to play in the big water you're better off with an offshore build and as long a hull as you can afford.
