How did they do it years ago without modern technology.

Automatic Pilot! :drink:

I guess we just kind get used to the channels and always have the trusty SPOTLIGHT & GPS!

Sunday, July 3rd is the Fireworks on the river at Marine Park. We usually get a nice raft-up going and travel home @ nite. It's like a parade on the water in the dark going back to port. You need to get there fairly early though. The river gets jammed.

CasinoRunner,
I know what you mean, that can make for an "interesting" ride home, but as was stated earlier, after awhile you do start to remember where all the buoys, etc are.
I'll be in the Navesink watching the fireworks Sunday also. Maybe I'll see some of you out there. We usually start the day in "Airforce" Cove and then head up towards Red Bank later in the day. Be safe coming home from the fireworks, its worse than the GSP in rush hour!!!

It's really not that bad if you do it enough. I spend almost every night in the fall heading out stiper fishing a night. The Navesink is much harder at night than the Shrewsbury, from the Highlands bridge out it's cake. The Navy Pier lights up everything, the scariest thing out there is the GIANT unlit bouy out near the bug light just inside the hook. I couldn't count how many times I've almost it the damn thing. Eventually you get used to all the lights on all the shores, the Dental Works in SI, Keansburg, the Highlands. Just a matter of how often you do it.

You could always take Panther to help in the rivers. He spends so much time there he's like a seeing eye dog.

So what's the deal Mr. V? You coming to the fireworks and rafting up with us?

I'm making a run to Paddy McGees tomorrow afternoon, I hear it's going to be rough... If you want, I'll take you for a ride on my boat so the ride is easier to handle than the potatoe chip?

I would say 30 minutes or so, it's pretty quick.

30 minutes from where? Took 45 from the gas dock at Navesink to Paddy's running just about flat out, even in the river.
