I need to make an LBI trip again...may be tough next year with an infant but we'll see what we can do!!

D-Dock was a hit up here when it started and there's still room to grow!!

Hopefully we see you at the party! Hopefully some other guys from the area will make the trip up!

Expensive Date 07-27-2007 10:44 PM

I will be there:party-smiley-020: if the weather is decent. Is the Pt pleasant canal a no wake zone never been through it? Or should I just run outside after LBI.

The canal is no wake but it had extremly bad currents and any traffic in there quickly turns up a nasty chop. You have to use throttle to maintain steerage the State police won't bother you within reason. They're barrack is next to the first bridge. I live on the south side of Point it takes me 20 minutes to make the ocean from there.

If the conditions are nice take the outside, you'll save yourself 30 minutes. If it gets bumpy take the inside.

It's no-wake in the canal, takes about 20-30 minutes to get thru.

Another beautiful day of boating in Northern Monmouth Cty. Everyone must have stayed at home today in fear of t-storms and it was sunny and calm. It was so nice out there today that my wife (7 months pregnant) let me venture out of the bay with her on board!!!!!! :party-smiley-048:

Now it's time to have a few cold ones and reflect on the days events! :cool-smiley-011:

Not 100% sure yet.... I should be at the island on Sunday, it's our regular Sunday place. Saturday is still up in the air, may take a trip...

How about you?

hunster 08-01-2007 08:57 AM

If it's as flat as it was last night , I'm trying to put a gang together for Paddy Mcgees! Have to hit that place at least once a season! Last night it was like a lake in the bay , had to run up to nyc. Sandbar was dead so we took a lap around and back to the dockside for late dinner. Love boating on a full moon!!!!

sakoutis3 08-01-2007 09:05 AM

Count me in. I need to get out of Barneget it sucks down here.

Screw Paddys, let's go to Brocco's Saturday!!! :cool-smiley-011: It takes the same amount of time with all the no-wake and stopping/starting between the bridges and the eye candy is much better in Freeport. :D

I was at the marina until 8:15 yesterday, what time did you get to the dockside??

If you're going out Saturday let me know so I can put a crew together...

.

Panther 08-01-2007 09:26 AM

Lookin pretty good so far! :cool-smiley-011:

SATURDAY: MAINLY SUNNY, HIGHS IN THE LOW 90's. ..NW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT...BECOMING SE IN THE AFTERNOON...THEN BECOMING S. SEAS 2 TO 3 FT. ."

sakoutis3 08-01-2007 09:46 AM

Never been to Brocco's I'm up for that call me let's make a plan. I've had eniugh of the bay I need a road trip.

Here's Johnny 08-01-2007 07:46 PM

Patty's is usually very quite on Saturday unless you go late (evening/night) .......Bracco's is a better choice on Saturday afternoon. Sunday Patty's gets packed in the late afternoon and Bracco's is also hopping too...........

We used to go to Paddys every other weekend about 5 years ago since it's only a 20 minute trip to the inlet and another 10-15 from there. We would even make the run over on a Friday after work and it was fun. These days it doesn't seem to be the happening place and towards the end of when we went there, the crowd wasn't as inviting.

I enjoy Bracco's much more and would like to start venturing out to the places on Fire Island.

If you ever get the chance try heading down our way and check out the area, it's only a 30 minute trip across the ocean. :cool-smiley-011:

"These days it doesn't seem to be the happening place and towards the end of when we went there, the crowd wasn't as inviting."

Panther.............I have to agree with you here......they get crowded on Sunday evening but the crowd is undesirable at times. As far as Fire Island I would recommend Flynn's (http://flynnsfireisland.com/)...... Not that I am the Fire Island expert but I have been to Flynn's twice this year. Lot's to do....nice beaches, good restuaraunts, eye candy, shops for the wives, fun to just walk around and sight see, and also some eye candy. Just call way ahead they are usually booked for overnighters weeks in advance. As far as heading toward you guys what's good over there for a sunday cruise........

Here's Johnny 08-02-2007 04:44 AM

and don't forget the Manhasset Bay Poker Run on August 25th..............it looks like NPBA dropped the Glenn Cove run so I would expect a better showing this year then some in the past..........weather permitting I will be running............John

If you head down for a Sunday cruise I'd recommend the tiki bar at theWindansea and stop by the Island before you head back. The dock at Windansea tends to fill up around 1 pm so I'd recommend getting there earlier or you'll have to anchor up across the river and they have a boat that comes out and picks you up.

As a matter of fact, next Saturday (Aug. 11th.) there will be a party at the island with live Reggea music through out the day. Lots of people will be spending the night, my wife is pregnant so we'll be heading back around dark or maybe later.....

I think my sister will be at Manhasset on Saturday for the PR but I'm going to be in Patchougue for the OPA race Sat/Sun.

Last year I ran up and caught the tail end of the Glen Cover PR, picked up my sister and rode back to Jersey. That's kind of the reason I started this thread because we do a lot of traveling to the north shore, south shore, upstate ny and south Jersey so I'm trying to get some folks to come see us for a change!!! :cool-smiley-011:

Panther 08-02-2007 11:41 AM

I'm on a lift at the marina I don't trailer but, most people launch from Atlantic Highlands Municipal Marina. It has the largest/safest ramp in the area.

Panther - I enjoyed reading your thread and looking at the maps, etc. I grew up in Fair Haven (Sea Bright was my stomping grounds :)) however, have been down in Virginia for the past 13 years. Since I have gotten into High Performance boats, I think about how cool the area I grew up in was and how nice it would be today with my current rig. My parents had a slip down in Red Bank (Irwin's)...with that today, I could just mosey out around the Hook and be in heaven. In fact, I remember sitting on the beach at Surfrider and watching the offshore boats go by and thinking how cool it was!

Virginia is good...we can take the James River out to Chesapeake Bay and then around the cape along Virginia Beach however, that is a long ride! I am curious...can you leave from the Hook and make it to lower Manhattan by boat or is it too rough? I remember being able to see the twin towers from the overlook in Atlantic Highlands on a nice day (then we would go by Bud's Grave). In any event, I have fond memories and miss the area tremendously. When the kids get a bit older, I will return for some Poker Runs. In the interim, I will need to stay put as the Wikepedia shows that the cost of living up there keeps on rising ($110k median in Fair Haven?) which means I likely wouldn't have my new rig if I was still living there!

That's cool that you're from the area! Surfrider was a fun hang out, I used to surf there a lot, the beach next door on either side (Anchor Ridge, Logs).

The area is nice, I enjoy it! We can run up to NYC and get there in 20 minutes. Run down the ocean to Pt. Pleasant in 30 min and run out to Long Island in 30 min.

Buds Grave... Wow, that brings back memories... They took the shrine down years ago, I don't know why...

The area is very expensive these days, house prices are thru the roof.... I grew up in Middletown and have since moved back... I bought my house for well over $150K more (half the size) than what my parents sold their house for back in 1995... Sometimes I think about moving south to get more bang for my buck but then we drive around and I realize why I like the area so much!!

Expensive Date 08-02-2007 10:37 PM

I will be there on the 11. Who else is going from Ocean County.Panther I post pictures of my lift in the bilge

How was the food??

I got two good meals during the week and Jodie and I got take-out Friday night and ate on the boat and that was good too.

Then about a month ago I had a meal on the weekend and it wasn't so good. Went back the following weekend and it wasn't good again... :angry-smiley-055:

Seems like it's hit or miss... I guess the new owner has some things to figure out..
