Hey Guys:

Morgan and I will definitely try and make this run with you.

We will also be displaying our boats at the Norwalk Show as well.

I'll have the new 21SS in Milford, CT for the rest of this week into Saturday for those that would like to take a look at her.

I'm going to try and display the boat at the Milford Oyster Festival on Saturday and will post here if it is definitely going to happen.

Then on Sunday, Morgan and I will take her to Candlewood Lake.

I can be reached at (203) 671-5138 or (203) 640-4009.

Ron

Ron/Morgan,

Boat looks great!! Heard that it had some pretty good numbers first time out....can't wait to see what else you guys are putting out. I have plans this weekend, so not sure if I'll be able to head up to Milford, but good luck.

How does this thing work with the speed limit and noise restrictions?

I dont think there are any. There are some no wake zones, but from my understanding people were running 100+ last year.

rjr 09-10-2008 10:59 AM

There is definitely a speed limit and a noise restriction. Interestingly, a DEP Officer told me that he had never had a boat with a factory exhaust, even straight thru, fail.

I would add that given the boat traffic up and down the river, a bunch of boats doing over 60, much less, 100 would be an accident waiting to happen.

http://www.cga.ct.gov/2003/olrdata/e...003-R-0526.htm

WAKE AND SPEED ON THE CONNECTICUT RIVER

Boaters are responsible for damage caused by their wake and must follow posted speed limits. Unless posted otherwise, the Connecticut River speed limit is 45 miles per hour (MPH) weekdays, 30 MPH weekends and holidays from the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, and 45 MPH the rest of the year, according to the Department of Environmental Protection’s 2003 Boaters Guide . pdf, which also describes areas where slower speeds are required. Attachment 2 is a copy of DEP’s 2003 Boater’s Guide (see page 54).

Additionally, no one may operate a motorboat at a speed above six MPH within 100 feet of shore, dock or a pier, float, or anchored or moored vessel, unless taking off or landing a water-skier. When within 100 feet of buoys marking a restricted swimming or boat access area, a vessel must be operated at the minimum speed necessary to steer it and make forward progress (see page 38 of the 2003 Boater’s Guide).

Speeding fines vary on the Connecticut River depending on the location. In general, speeding violations are infractions that draw an $ 80 fine (CGS § 15-139 (b)). Speeding in confined or restricted areas, as well as skiing at prohibited times or in restricted areas, among other actions, can also be construed as reckless or negligent operation.

Gladhe8er 09-10-2008 11:14 AM

All I can say is my Dad and brother ran in this last year and everyone was hauling a$$. Some guys were even wearing their race helmets because they were "opening them up."

Sick Stinger 09-10-2008 11:25 AM

Ignorance of the law is my defence.....
-Mike

ChristianGott 09-10-2008 06:31 PM

speed is only really monitored in the no wake areas, never heard of a speeding ticket elswhere. noise, however, is dep's thing...must love their noise monitoring toys and writing $200 tickets, which you don't have to pay if you have proof you remediated your noise producing equipment...

Sick Stinger 09-11-2008 09:23 AM

Sounds good Chris i hope i make that one. i talked to pat on the board he said he will be there but maybe not on his but a friends fountain he didt really get into detail about the run but i will see what i can find out.
Mike

rjr 09-11-2008 09:42 AM

I believe there was some kind of "officially" sanctioned event near Middletown last year but I was not under the impression that it was an open event.

Maybe its old age but I can't imagine anything positive coming from a bunch of loud fast boats running up and down the river.

I think the speed limit this time of year is 45 MPH

If you do go bring a chart!!!!! The river is VERY shallow in most places with narrow dredged channels. Look for the ranges. If you don't know what a range is follow someone who does.

Sick Stinger 09-11-2008 10:06 AM

RJR whats come about it is a couple things... Love of the sport and those who can get together and enjoy it together. Also the exspereice of running the rive for those who have not and the memories and enjoyment.
-Mike

rjr 09-11-2008 10:31 AM

SS I agree with everything you say, and have to admit to exceding the speed limit, and probably the noise limit, on the river from time to time. But one boat once in a while will probably be overlooked. A crowd is going to bring a lot of complaints from the owners of the McMansions that have sprung up on the banks in the past few years. Law enforcement and regulatory changes will surely follow. The owner of one of the Portland marinas told me that there has been effort to make the WHOLE river a "no wake" zone. An outlaw event will not help. Having said that, I will probably be there.

Gladhe8er 09-11-2008 10:41 AM

The Ct River Run started out as a run with predominantly single outboard boats. It is progressively attracting more loud sterndrive boats. I think rjr is right...soon there are going to be too many complaints to keep it going. Hopefully that's not the case. I will be there this year, but in a Single OB boat.

Sick Stinger 09-11-2008 10:56 AM

So if thats the case is it even worth my self or other stern drives to go.
Mike

TeamSaris 09-12-2008 04:20 PM

Ill be in an eggbeater...

ChristianGott 09-12-2008 06:26 PM

i'll be out on the river that day, it's a "family" tradition.....hope i don't get buzzed by a bunch of 100mph speedsters looking to upset my placid day on the historic CT River...

Sick Stinger 09-12-2008 06:32 PM

Hey Chris why not ill shoot over with my sterndriver with you no race boat here just a cool clean ride.
-Mike

ChristianGott 09-12-2008 06:40 PM

TeamSaris 09-12-2008 07:10 PM
