Wow Kev...Very respectable post. Seems very accurate. I was expecting some sort of Baja bashing. I agree you are heavier and a foot bigger so eventually you will take the water better than my boat. I would guess neither of us would really want to be running wot those days anyways. And there have been many, many times I've "cruised" with some pretty big boats in rougher water and they did not "lose sight" of me. I will gladly give you a ride this summer (if you can get out of your new toy for more than a second!!) so you know first hand how well my boat rides. Its no Cafe but it rides pretty good :grinser010:

Btw...I hope I get a chance to go for a rip on the Bullet. Boat looks awesome. And as always....I'll bring the booze :drink::drink::drink:

No Jason, I wouldnt "Baja Bash" you. My boat is at a Baja owners house right now and he will probably read our posts. I cant afford to lose my spot for the winter. In the spring, I may do some bashing, especially cause the 33 Outlaw owner wants a 38 Top Gun!!!! No, but seriously, the two boats will be fun to run together. Your more than welcome to go for a hell ride, but!! you have to shots on the Bullet!!!!!!!!!!!:ernaehrung004::ernaehrung004::er naehrung004:

Frank thought something bad happened over there, but your still with us I see. I just penciled you in for first week in June when we face off against Frank on our way to Claudios !! You in???????????

Kreed, I would love to go to claudios on your Bullet, but Its going to be hard to go by Franks boat when your boat from what i have been told needs some power work. You really so get it in running condition before you go after the 35' or any other boat! Just a word of Advice, the same kind of advise I gave you on what kind of boat to buy... And when you do get it running up to top power, you know that if by some mircacle you do pass Frank, his Pockets are deeper then yours!!!!!!!

I don't care what you guys say I love Riccio! I think Kevin should get those puppies running and send the Bullet to Florida so in March we have something to do. I will pay for the gas, and there won't be to many people because we already know Jay won't come.

Thats right, but guess what...not on the Bullet!!!!!Hes out again! Just erased his June reservation . Priccio has been banned from the Cafe...and now from the Bullet. Good job Dickkio. Now you gotta try and worm your way into Jasons Outlaw. Good luck and remember, my engines are my business, not yours!

Okay I am going to post something serious on this thread for the first time. In the Bullet vs. Baja debate I can offer somewhat impartial imput. First I like Baja boats, they make an affordable, good looking, good riding and relatively quick boat. The Cigarette made or makes a not so affordable and maybe overpriced good riding, good looking and also a relatively quick boat. Both boats are going to have peak performance in different conditions and at different times. My opinion is that the build quality is greater in the Cig not to say that the Baja is not above normal(Ibelieve it is). I also think that the resale of the Cigarette is going to be better, although you do pay for it in the purchase. I owned an 89 Baja with twin 454's on bravos and I beat that thing like Rolli beats his monkey. I never had aproblem with the hull or any structural concerns. My biggest problem was the refrigarator came flying out in 4 footers and bounced around (they don't belong in those boats). The ride was great in 2 foot chop or 3ft. rollers. When it got rougher then that the boat would come out of the water very easy and it was hard to maintain speed above 40mph. I have aslo stuffed the nose once or twice. If I was to pick on the boat I would say the length and weight where among my biggest complaints in rough water, the flip side theboat went pretty fast with small dependable stock power. When I bought the Cafe I noticed a very different feel driving in rough water it will take alot of what Long Island sound has to throw at it without breaking a sweat. The other side to that is it is heavier and requires much more power and much more fuel. Also the Cigarette was 2 1/2 times the price. I know I am comparing an older Baja to an older Cig so it is not an apples to apples comparison but just some of my thoughts on the subject. Being what the used boat market is you all better start to appreciate what you have because you may need to hold on to it for a while. There is something to be said about the ride of a nice heavy boat, but at the same time there is something to be said for going fast with stock power and actually getting to go out on your boat opposed to wrenching.....you decide

kreed 10-29-2009 06:54 AM

Well said, and I like the Baja Pic. Havent seen that boat in a while. I guess Jason and I would have a better "arguement" if the 2 boats we're comparing were evenly priced when they were new. I have the original invoice for the Cig when it was purchased which was 200K. Im sure Jasons boat was under 100k new. So as far as price goes, we're comparing apples to oranges. I guess its not fair for me to say my boat handle better in the rough stuff, when my boat was double the price of his. If both boats were 200k, then we could poke at each others boats and compare the boats dollar for dollar. So, Jason , stop critiquing my old tank of a boat !! We CAN however compare the 292 Formula against the 30 Outlaw!! This is going to be fuuunnn!!!!!!!!!!:angry-smiley-038:

Agree....we should be happy with the fact we OWN one of these types of boats (whatever the brand). Unless you have "throw away" income....financing on one of these things is basically impossible. So.... I will start the toast........ TO US!!!!!! :drink: (minus Dickeo, of course! lol. BTW Paulie....your banned from the Formula as well.)

Jay, I dont think any of us has a "throw away income". Like you said, we should all be happy we can even boat in this economy, never mind that its high performance boating! Were all lucky.

P.s. Im glad you banned Riccio from the Formula too, pretty soon, he'll be OUT altogether!

Riccio a spot has opened up on the Cafe for you, just behave yourself and you will be all set next year. Besides bring your old lady out again next year and get her to show her a$$ again @ the National and watch all the invites come rolling in. I think this why Rolli invites you guys all the time:drink:

Kevin so know you want to compare Jason's Baja to Jay's Formula? This could be an apples to apples comparison and could be very interesting. I believe both boats are aprox. the same year and value. I know the Baja has bigger power and runs faster at wot. but I have only been on Jay's Formula so I will give you my take on that boat and the ride. First I went out on a breezy day in the sound with a god 2 ft chop. The boat rode better then I thought it would, much better actually. The fit and finish og the cockpit is very impressive and it is obvisous this is where Formula spent a great attention to detail. The gauages, shifters and throttles are top quality. Electric bolsters and so on(not sure why you would put them up). The paint is also in the higher end and it a twin step with small blocks so my guess this boat is very economical to run. The Baja outside appearance to me is more appealing, I don't like windshields or molded swim platforms on these types of boats but that is just an opinion thing. Rough water capability may come to driver imput. So lets hear your opinions

Ok, well Formula has always made quality boats. I actually remember seeing Jays boat in OP showroom and I thought, wow, this boat is sweet! I didnt think it was going to be as expensive as it was, but looking at the attention to detail and the paint job up close, its beautiful. Lots of upgrades and timless Formula lines. If they could put big blocks in that boat, it would be "absolute EVIL". Rough water handling should compare to the Baja, probably same weight . Formulas are usually pretty heavy. I like the lines of the Baja because it looks like an offshore boat. The windshield is not my first choice. Im a fan of the raised deck on the Baja. 75 MPH out the box is sweet! Theres alot to be said about that. I think Jay would have to drive it like he stole it to keep up with Jason. Guys, whos cabin has more room? Im going to guess the Formulas cabin is nicer with more options. Right?

JBOUTLAW 10-29-2009 10:04 AM

The boats are pretty similar. I have more freeboard and I believe more deadrise but not 100% sure. I can't knock Formulas at all 'cause I think they're a great boat and mostly I can't knock this one because it belongs to a very good friend of mine. Now as far as the boats compared....The Formula is a better built boat. Baja is more mass produced and cheaper quality wise. But I do love the offshore stance it has as Kevin and Frank mentioned, I think the Bajas really got it right with style and appearance. Also I am a true 30 whereas the Formula is a 29 with platform. And yes because of his small blocks I am faster. I also come on plane ridiculously quick. Ammenities are almost the same between the two. I believe the only thing I lack is a small freshwater tank with the little sink in the cabin. I have more cabin and cockpit space due to being a bigger boat. The other plus (besides big blocks) are the k-planes as compared to trim tabs. They make a huge difference in the rough or balancing a load. But both boats are absoultely perfect for our area. Small enough to trailer but large enough to boat on any given day, faster than a large amount of boats in the area, big enough to haul plenty of people around, efficient to run and own, usable cabins for overnighting, and a relatively decent price tag for an entry level performance boat as Jay and I both purchased them new. The only thing I don't have is "the bucket"!!! And...Paulie can't go on EITHER of them!!:evilb::evilb::evilb:

Jason, just out of curiousity, if you and Jay switched boats for a race to Claudios, who would get there first? Jason driving the Formula, and Jay driving the Baja.:eek::eek:

Frank, what do you think?

JayFan 10-29-2009 10:45 AM

I can't argue with any of your comments about the Formula and Baja.... although I know that Jason's handles the "bigger" chop better, I think a lot of that has to do with the K planes and 1 foot in length.... I do like the step hull design of the Formula...however I can't go toe to toe with the Baja's overall speed. I think it has me by about 3-4 mph.

Eventhough you guys bust on the windshield....is rocks at dusk/night or when it rains!!! But I fully agree that a clear plexiglass of the Cig or Baja "looks sweet". And.... I like the look of the built in swim platform actually and how the shower/stereo remote and ladder are all hidden.

It is too bad Formula does not offer big blocks.....there is PLENTY of room for them, must be a balance issue. My bottom line is it's a great boat....however NOT worth what I dumbly paid....and if I were to do over I would get a early 2000's, USED 38 or 42 Cig or Fountain. But....live and learn!

PS. I have the most color!!!! lol!!! That must count for SOMETHING boys!!!

The Baja would win every time. Its just a faster boat. And if it happens to be a little choppy it handles that a little better. Although I do only know one speed....WFO!!!! :evilb::evilb:

Jason, thats where I think you may get me. I always keep a close eye on gauges and dont hold it WOT for long. Only because I can afford to fix blowed up engines! On an older boat, you have to worry aboutlaw that stuff!
