Why do you hear so much about them being dangerous in turns etc? Most of the race boat fatalities recently have been CATS havent they?

Plus theres no place to sleep, change, drink!

You always hear about boating accidents with cats where a sponson(SP?) catches a wave and sucks that side of the boat in the water causing a spin out. Kinda makes me nervous, I mean, they are fast and cool to look at, but I think I will stick with a vee bottom. As I get older, I think about saftey alot more than going over 100 in a boat. (scary that I even said that)Im not saying cats are bad, just not for me.....Also, would you say the Outerlimits vee is the best? Ever ridden in a Active Thunder or a Cigarette? What are the comparisons to an OL ?

A stepped bottom Vee can be just as dangerous in a turn.

For me, a Vee is easier/less expensive to insure, easier to trailer and launch, has a more accomodating cabin area, etc. I love the cats too, but probably not for me....but if anyone wants to give me a ride on one I will graciously accept!

You guys echoed my thoughts exactly on the V vs cat idea.

Safety is getting more and more important to me,

Who was that cat builder who just disapeared. He had an orange colored cat and the whole back left side was missing. It was all over the net for a while.

That made me nervous about CATs heres a guy who builds them, riding along with his daughter or something and catches a bad wave and its all over..

I mean this can happen in a V too but not as likely.

Kreed how do you like that cig?

I am a Sutphen guy but I like the look of that boat.

Well, I bought it in October, freshened the engines over the winter, and have now had it out about 10 times. I have a slip in Portland and last Sunday we went from Portland to Claudios and back. No troubles at all. (except no beer I mean cup holders in front). I love this boat. Its got a raised deck which makes you feel real safe in rougher water. Handled everything we've thrown at it so far no problem. Havent had it in 3-4 footers yet, but a few big wakes and some chop in the sound. In the river, it rides like a caddy, not super fast, but its a great handling boat.

It would be tough fro me to go to anything but a sutphen but I do like the raised deck. There a nice Top gun and buddyhas been rying to get me to buy and I like pantreas too Very Sutphenesque but I really trust the sutphen hull. we had one break free from it mooring years ago and slam intyo a sea wall In OL all night long. It never broke up!

It did however GRIND its way through the hull.

Were tlaking 8 ft waves pounding it against a sea wall all night and it never broke apart.
Thats one hell of a hull.

I owned a Cigarette Gladiator for three years. Have looked over every boat made and there is no comparison in ride handling or speed to an Outerlimits. They're at the top for a reason. In 3-4 footers in the sound in a 32ft Skater Id be tied up and on my second drink before you'd get there in your bullet for reference! You just have to know how to run the cat and they're perfectly safe as are step bottom boat. And we currently own a cat an two Sutphens.

I like the 2 sutphens.LOL

No seriously though I have always heard that about step bottom boats too and my brothers 32 fountain fever is rock solid. we havent seen any issues with that hull design in our time running his boat.
I have been very impressed with that boat.

One of these days Id like to go for a ride in that cat and see what its all about.

I was down in RI with ernie tonight. didnt work out quite as planned but was a good time hanging out with Ernie anyway.

Dan and Ken I need a ride in your cat I have never been in one but would love the opportunity some day. Also in boating for 11 years I have never been over 85mph on the water who knows maybe there will be a cat in my future.
