Its something you have to experience. Then that #1 on the side of your boat wont mean so much!!:evilb: Madhatter knows as he used to run a 42 Cig with monster power.

I would be curious to hear what Madhatter had to say comparing his 42 Cig to his 42 OL. Which 42 Cig did he have?

42 tiger flat bottom with cobras and sixes.

Was the boat in Ct if so which one was it? I am not sure if it is fair to compare straight bottoms and stepped hulls though:lolhit: So I hear the cat is gone.....whats next?

Was this the Smokin boat that sat behind OP. What year was that boat early 90's right?
And if so it was not Tiger right?

No, Smokin was one of the few Evolutions built. It was the revolution hull with a stretched Top Gun deck. That boat was a 1992 I believe and it was a staggered 800 Hawks. Boat. Madhatters was a 2000 called Nauti Kitty side by side. The new boat is in the works.

Any hints? Is it the Outerlimits coming out? Sutphen? Another cat? Give us something.

Will be an Outerlimits.

600CU Merlins, with big PSIs on her...

It was Parnells (NautKitty old boat) that had the 1100/1300s in it, we repowered it with our power.

In comparison, there is no comparison. Over 100 the tiger was a bear, in the rough, it was a fantastic boat, but it needed tab. Once you got it over 90, she started to dance, it ran into the triple digits, great boat, just needed allot of power to push it.

Outerlimits, no comparison. Over 100 they just settle in and run on top. I've never slammed in either 42...and I've run into a good 4-5 food head sea at well over 115 and never thought twice (in MadHatter, the Old 42). You're thankful of the dual helm. Had it in the 42 Tiger, but it just feels second nature in the Outerlimits.

Cig for rough water, outerlimits for rough water, and big speed in rough water...

You need a hurricane to have fun in either boat ;)

Funny story, ran Nauti out in the hurricane , I want to believe it was 02-03, ran it out into the sound running 85+ (NO BULL****) through 6-8s...came around into the gutt, and hit 10-12footers, I'll never forget the waves, they were like driving into a 2 story house, came off a wave at boat slammed, drove it up the next swell and turned around...had about enough of that lol, and cracked the gas tanks...cigarette sent us new tanks, but moved up into MadHatter, and never looked back...never had that problem in the OL....and yes....everyone else who was headed out..turned around...too bad she broke..

So if that's a good comparison hopefully it helped. Believe me, I wasn't a believer until I got out in a 42OL...the difference is unbelievable...

I've run back from Block Island/Newport in 4s with the ladies sleeping in the back seat....up on top, you just dont feel it...everyone else pulls the throttles back...in the OL...push em forward...Only side effect is the big grin on your face, and the adrenaline going up...

There you have it folks!! You should post that in the general discussion section so more people can see it!!:D Gonna try to put together an OL run to Claudios this summer!

Sounds good to me! I'll be there..

Those big water runs also, make no mistake, were made with race jackets, helmets and comms and . Don't want to condone anyone running those speeds without the proper gear. I'm sure everyone here knows that, especially in big water.

Calm is one thing, but running in big big rough water, you have to be prepared.

thats good you added that madhatter, cause I dont remember seeing anyone wearing safety gear at pavillion run. I dont think anyone expected it to be as nasty as it ended up.

Funny you should mention that...considering the "disqualified" no safety gear rule was not enforced...I won't even get into the drinking rule. Nor the fact, the run ended at 4pm, and we went back out after the time we got in at 1pm...got stuck in a major squall at 330, and I know other boats were not back yet, and missed the ceremony. Little things like this I think could've been more organized especially for the price of the run. I pay that much I expect more.

I had the sport jackets on, so did my members...several boats were not wearing anything, and there are photos to prove it..

That somewhat ticked me off...the most organized group is the Florida Powerboat Club. I have to say, they have very strict rules and go over the hand signals slowing down and what to watch for. They make sure the boats all take off in staged brackets etc. The L.I. run, I had to watch everyone in case of someone. Most were good, but no one ran together, (few vees ran with me) but everyone else was pretty much running full tilt. Not to mention some of the stops were not clearly marked.

I'd like to mention one other thing, Cigarette is also a much narrower boat, there's allot more room on an Outerlimits, it's a much larger boat inside, if that means anything to anyone. It feels much lighter than a Cigarette at the weights as well...

I know a particular boat that had nothing on, and wasn't even running a lanyard....and it's easy to point out considering the shots of this particular boat were all over the site...

I persoannly got there late, We took off just about last and the conditions looked very calm when we took off.

figured wed put vests on as we got further out and all of a sudden we were in the middle of some nasty rough stuff.

All I had on was my lanyard and I am USUALLY very good about vests. It was so rough we broke a bolt in the Bimini top frame. After we stopped to fix the top with a appropriately sized allan key and some electrical tape I couldnt find the next stop. I didnt have my GPs with me either.LOL

30ctsutphen 02-05-2011 02:44 PM

This why we need members/ funds in the CPBA so we can organize runs and make them safe and more fun for everyone involved.

The pavillion run is a great run, but it is a loosely governed day which allot of people really like about it.

similar to the Ct river run, both of the events really would like people to wear proper gear and ask for it as far as I know but its up to the people to police it themselves.

we in the CPBA have along way to go still, but the club is getting stronger everyday.

ehhh questionable. you would have to pick a super calm day and then pray it stays that way...the best option would be to leave early like 9 ish am and head back later around 6 pm...i find that the sound is at its roughest between 11 and 5...winds are high during the day and let up at night

or you can just hop on our boat...

Thanks for the invite, but we were already movie bound. Next time for sure. How old are your kids again? .........Jeff, you also made a good point in the street race thread about Scots gfriend. Dan and Scot seem to have alot in common, invisible girls! Weve met them both out a few times, with no GF in sight! Scot, any pics of this woman around? Or is she like bigfoot, lots of talk but no proof!! Even Moses posted a bunch of pics. Hes got b!tches galore!! :party-smiley-004:

yeah shes like a mythical creature!

She only appears in dark areas where no pne is around. I heard her name is Rosey P.
hahahahahah

anyone can pull pics of a boat from online too. Have you ever Actually seen Scots boat?

He is in the witness protection program after all so his credibility is suspect at best.LOL

My kids are young 1 and 5. We didnt bring them out that night we went out to Piccolo arancio and got poluted for a change. We used to go there every weekend before kids and eat good food drink good alchohol and have fun.

I forgot how expensive it was though $170.00 for the 2 of us. That didnt seem so bad before but now with kids and bad economy wheww It seems like allot of $$$ , but 70 was probably drinks:eek:.

Incredible food and hopsitality though. You go there and your like family even after not being there for a couple years. Sal the owner is a great guy and makes everything perfect for you.:drink:

Question on the comparison the Tiger was a straight bottom 90's boat with a value of approximately $90k and the Outerlimits is a multi step boat that is what 10 years newer and has a value of what $300k? Wouldn't a fair comparison be to a 42x?

The Tiger was a 2000 and brought close to the same money as the Outerlimits when new. Their Outerlimits was a 2001 or 2002. They're current one is a 2000 same year as the Tiger they owned.

Okay but you are still comparing a straight bottom to a multi step no? And what was the price difference? And which boat has spun out more frequently? Just saying... I love all the boat comparisons they ate never apples to apples and all have there pluses and minuses. I by no means think the Tiger is Cigs best hull in fact I know it is not it is most likely the 39. For the record I would own an Outerlimits in a minute if it was the right one and was reasonably priced. For me I like Cigarette, Outerlimits,Active Thunder, Nortech, in that order and would buy anyone of them if they where the right set up for me. Each one in my opinion offers something unique. But like many things there is a give and take.

Correct Frank but thats the boat Cigarette was selling to compete with the Outerlimits. They only spin cause people cant drive them. You can spin a straight bottom boat as well. Cigs best hull is the newer 46 by far.

Yes you can make it as long as you take your time. We had 8 jetskis all launch at Between the Bridges around 10am for claudios, sea conditions to claudios were 1 footers at most. We all stayed together and cruised at 40mph and 60+ in the smooth areas. On the way back seas picked up, we ran 1-2's with the occasional 3 footer, on average i bet we cruised around 25-30mph. Yeah we got all banged up but being summer and 85 degrees that day, I cant wait to repeat that day. Even if you have a 21 foot boat, remember its not a race!

Absolutely. Obviously you want to watch the marine forecast and pic your days, but that's plenty of boat if conditions aren't bad all that bad.

With that said, I ran over there one day with a 17' Yamaha jet boat I used to have (years ago, fun little boat, but it would beat the chit out of you in the Sound). Running over we ran at 45 mph or so and had a smooth ride. Later on after spending a few hours at Greenport, the conditions didn't seem all that bad, until we came around the point and realized Plum Gut had some seriously big water. I mean HUGE! Thank god that little boat wasn't a bow rider, I honestly dont think it would have stayed afloat if it had been. I still can't believe it never went over. The GF was screaming and crying hysterically (which was real helpful under those conditions I might add!). The rest of the trip was 'only' 5'-6', which I was happy to see at that point. It took a long time to get home, but we made it. I never checked the weather forecast and paid the piper. The 'mythical' GF wouldn't go back on a boat for years after that day. I have to say it left a lasting impression on me too... it was humbling to say the least.

Anyway, a 21 should be fine as long as they aren't calling for significant wind or weather. Watch the marine forecast and as Justin suggested, the Sound is typically calmer earlier and later in the day.

kreed 02-08-2011 07:18 AM

Scot, so THIS is why your now going for a big cat! Has the fake GF been to Claudios since? You have alot of making up to do! Time to go big or go home. All seriousness, we left Newport Marina past year in a storm with driving rain. In the harbor there was like 2 footers. Coming out of the harbor, I could see the huge rollers going with the driving rain. My wife was very hung over and in the cabin trying to stay dry. Once we were in the ocean, it was raining so hard we couldnt even get on plane. The waves were higher than the side of the boat and the wife was crying and beggin me to turn around and go back to Newport.......................so there I was in Newport again. :lolhit:

302Sport 02-08-2011 08:01 AM

we went to block island the weekend of the hurricane this summer (labor day) and the marine forecast was calling for 9-10's. you actually had to hammer it going up the swells and pull all the way back to let the boat surf down the back side. when we arrived at champlains there was less than 15 boats there and this was on labor day weekend.

Yeah, I got her back over to LI last season, but that first trip was a slow one. She seems to be better with everything, but I'm sure she'll never forget that day, I know I wont...
We bought that little 17 so we could take it to lakes for weekend trips up north. We had a lot of fun with that boat and it was super easy to grab it and go without much thought... which is what got us in trouble in this case! The boat was sold the following spring as she refued to get back on the boat. :D

Sounds like you've had one of those trips too. :D

I always watch the marine forecast and radar now before i go out, but if I'm on a smaller boat, I still watch the weather closely. My Cougar is decent in rough water, but bigger is always better, so yes, my next boat will be at least 36'... vee or cat!

Ahh Frank you missed SUTPHEN in your list.

Just poking fun!LOL

kreed 02-08-2011 09:09 AM

With Tsunami for sale and going for a reasonable price, it sounds like Sutphen will be off Dan's list soon too! Next years Sutphen run looks to be an OL run instead! Or are you gonna host 2 runs Dan? Seems the Cigarette /Sutphen comparisions are over and we're now onto the Cigarette / OL comparisons! Frank, its not easy being a Cigarette owner around here, but you should be used to it by now. They are the boat that everyone is striving to compete with.

30ctsutphen 02-08-2011 09:15 AM

Innerrage one day we went over to claudios in really nice weather. Had all the kids with us and my daughter was about 2 years old. we were in my brothers 32 fever. The radio said only there were strong winds on the way. So we jumped in the boat fired it up and started to pull out, Something made us change our minds when we saw the rain coming in.

Within 15 minutes there was a torrential down pour, within 25 minutes there was 2 feet of water in the streets of Green port in front of claudios and we went into the caroseul. It was the worst storm wed ever seen. Guys were beaching 40 ft cigs! A guy from farmington in a 60 FT sport fisher said he ducked in cause he was getting soaked by waves in his fly bridge!. Theres a thread on it here in the NE section somewhere.

The point is your 21 will make it but the sound can be a NASTY BI TCH In a real hurry. So always keep that radio on.
No doubt in my mind had we been in the gut that day when it hit we would have probably swamped that 32 fever from what the reports were.

when the sound wants to come up and grab your azz it will, and theres not **** your gonna do about it!

We had a similar experience once before on a sunny day (no rain at all) coming around the point in a 21 nova near cedar island marina. My cousin who was agreen beret in Vietnam was on the floor of the boat.LOL My dad ran that boat thru waves as big as the freakin hull. It was only around the pt and then it was 5 to 6 fters again. which still werent fun but you werent scared for your life!
