Never said I would run against a 37 OL with 1100hp a side. I'll put a 37 AT up against a single step 525 37 OL any day of the week. A OL is a far superior product to anything else we can all agree on that. The AT will also eat a 525 38 top gun for lunch.

302Sport 11-19-2011 10:30 AM

On a different note, the sutphen cheerleading squad seems to have gone missing

He is to busy doing his Christmas shopping with the money the CPBA made from the swap meet. By the way does anyone know how much was made? Jeff are you ever going to answer my question on where you are storing your boat?

[QUOTE=302Sport;3553172]I'll put a 37 AT up against a single step 525 37 OL any day of the week.

Bold statement there......anyone disagree? Is Adam now on top?...So hes faster than a 37 OL with equal power, and eats TS 525 Guns for lunch! Is there anything in the 38 ft range that can touch him now? :party-smiley-004:

302Sport 11-19-2011 12:28 PM

Dans OL with equal power will blow my doors in and its bigger. But, in that size range with a shower, bed, toilet, micro, fridge, etc..., I think its hard to beat

Agreed, Ken's 40 with 525's would still run close to 100, but it is a stripper in comparison and it has a much lighter layup too.

On the other hand, be careful with that luxury rocketship of yours... the only two single step 37 AT's that I know of in CT now have both spun, rolled, and went fishing! :grinser010:

302Sport 11-19-2011 05:49 PM

Atleast nobody got killed, which is the outcome of about 4 OL that I can think of that rolled . :drink:

Recreational boats just out for a day on the water or are you talking race boats actually competing in races? The two 37 AT's weren't racing when they went put on an acrobatics show... Big difference if so!

OL40SVX 11-19-2011 06:04 PM

Just for comparison the only epoxy 37 OL built was a staggered 525 boat and ran 90+ with full cabin. Also not cool bringing up the only OL accident that had deaths due to driver error.

Probably safe to say all of these spins/rolls had some driver error related to them...

Good info Dan. Would you say that boat is comparable to Adams? There is a staggered 37 AT that ran 95 with 600's.

Don't believe that boat had full cockpit and cabin like the newer ones. Should be comparable speed wise. Amazing a 1993 hull design is still fairly fast. Won't have any time in an AT till Adam gets his together.

302Sport 11-19-2011 07:18 PM

Just making a point sorry dan. We all know the offshore rollover legend, cigarette takes the cake in that category.

Massey had those engines warmed up and also put some decent parts in them when he was forced to have them rebuilt (after rolling the boat). He said the boat ran around 91-92 when he got it and 94-95 after bumping up the engines a bit. Even so, I don't think you can compare even stock 600 numbers with those of a 525, those SC engines make a lot more torque. Pat at AT claims there was no speed advantage with the staggard setup. I still find this strange and wonder if it had more to do with that boat having a very heavy layup (which he admitted), even though it only had a partial cockpit. Regardless, I think it's safe to say mid 80's is pretty much the norm for stock 37 AT's with 525's, very reasonable IMO given the full cabin and typical well appointed features.

With that being said, you know as well as I do Adam's wont have 'stock' power either, if he ever gets this one put back together! :drink:

Stepped boats spin out we have all seen the videos. Now saying Cigarette has more spin outs then others may or may not be true I seriously don't know( but I am sure Mr.Offshore will tell us), but on a percentage basis I would "think" that Outerlimits or Active Thunder might have them beat. Oh yeah and Adam are going to run whipples on those 525's? That would be a sweet set up... and I would hate to see you back there with 525 Top Guns.

OL40SVX 11-19-2011 08:47 PM

OL and AT do not have them beat even on a percentage basis.

Frank that would be considered cheating. My name isn't reggie fountain

There's no quad steps missing. One was run up on rocks and the other was burnt in a barn fire in Maine. Why isnt there 1 Cigarette that handles well at 120+mph? Your last statement makes zero sense. Also there was more than 4 built. Any more wrong information you want to post?

Um maybe because they are a heavier better riding more stable boat:party-smiley-004: Just a guess I don't have the formal education in Outerlimits lay up schedules that you have, I have been to busy running my own business and making money to buy my own boat.

One word displacement. I will give a real world example. Years ago I was went to Long Island in a friend of mines boat. We ran into Dominic who I bought my Cafe from. Dominic had bought a 37 side by side Outerlimts with 500hp's in it. Dominic had 3 buddies with him. We sat down and had a beer with these guys, them not knowing that i bought the Cafe from Dominic. When we asked how them how they liked Dom's boat they said they loved it, and said it was definately faster then his old boat "but said it did not ride as smooth or feels as safe" as his old boat. One of the guys said even Dominic missed the ride of the Cigarette. So completely unexpected and no brand loyalty just 3 guys stating their findings. So that's how I guess I would explain it. Not to mention there are others who have even more experience then you in all the different hulls that have told similar findings, I know they are fast but again from what people who I have talked to have said is they tend have a more rigid and loose ride. I am sure you will disagree and maybe you are right. But maybe just maybe you are wrong and they are right. Now I know that you and Adam and Pat don't like Cigarettes and feel they are an inferior product but why do think they have been so successful all these years, especially when other brands like Fountain and Baja and Power Quest and Activator oh yeah and Power Play can't seem to do the same?

Gorgeous boat as is the 40 OL you guys have now. What year was that? I know you base a part of your Cig impression on owning this boat but is that a fair comparison? I am not sure never been in a Gladiator and not sure how they compare to the ride of a TG. What the rigging from one company to the next? I believe it was Pat that told me that OL could learn a lot from Cig on rigging. Pat if this was not you then I apologize but I know it was an OL owner who used to own a Cig before and I am pretty sure it was you that said it. And again off it was Pat his boat is 10 years old and I am sure things have changed.

Cig does finish off a boat very nice. They're still building boats the old school way. Nice and flashy. The TG rides better than the Glad since they are similar hulls and weight made a difference. I dont base all my Cig impression off the glad but the fact I've been in almost all their step boats and few straights. I knew Dom. Rich now has his boat.
