2017 Hudson River Fun Run
#81
Thank you Jonathan.
Just to be clear on the helicopter.
If we were to use the R44 the price came in around $800 per hour , a little higher than last year but not double. First problem is that the R44 is not coming to the event due to the pilot I was referred to has other obligations that weekend.
That left us trying to use the Long Ranger that is coming to the event. Now that type of chopper will cost about $1,500 per hour but I was trying to work on deal in getting it sponsored. Unfortunately the pilot flying this one has no interest flying for this event ever again.
I reached out one more time last week to see if his boss could change his mind, my phone has been silent ever since.
At this point, should I cover this event, it will be from a boat. Quite frankly, my best shots from the Hudson were from a boat anyway.
Most likely Video will not be an option. Not enough people would be interested in footage shot from a boat.
I haven't really seen much response here for stills and makes me wonder will it even be worth the trip?
I have a National Championship Offshore Race to shoot that same weekend but don't need to shoot both Sat & Sunday there.
I will probably refer back to how I did this event many years ago .
Ask for $50 deposit (Normally $100) towards the purchase of products on my site. If I don't have any shots of your boat or you don't see any you like, I will refund the money.
If I leave there and I have pictures of boat that did not pay a deposit, they will sit on hold and the owner can contact me about paying a deposit before I even consider processing and uploading the images.
I am not going to post-process 1000's of images when I don't have to. I have way too much other work I could be doing than wasting it on images they may never be sold.
And of course, if you really want to get my attention you can always pay a larger deposit...
This has worked in the past and it tells me who is serious about buying photos....
I have a committed boat at this time and as we get closer and plans don't change I will post a photo of it so you know what to look for.
If nothing else I want more is to be sitting just south of West Point where the river narrows and usually the water gets big in the S-Bend there.
You just don't get a shot like this in a helicopter....

Hey guys I just want to give a quick shout out. I'm not trying to be a stiff here and hope to be at the run. However, I have used the boat only 3 times this season and 3 times I have had an exhaust water leak. The first time I did nothing as it seemed to be just a bit of spray that I passed off as random standing water from moister, rain, etc. The second time we clearly found it to be an exhaust issue. It was at the tailpipe. Fixed it. Now we fire it up and it's worse than ever. This time it's the header. It's about 14 inches down the front pipe from the collector on the inside of course. So, the only possible way to reach it will be to cut through the outer pipe to get at the leak. Weld it up than patch the outside pipe. I am waiting to hear if this will be possible. If not I am done for the season as I would never be able to get another header in time nor can I afford to do so. Any one want to buy a 107+mph 39' Sutphen? Heck of a deal, limited time only...........$84,900 firm!
