What A Race In Svl!!!!!!!
 

Kevin Cooper in SVL won today with a great race strategy. He was the only boat to complete the course using his GPS and not coming to close to the turn boats after 2 turn markers broke loose. After being lapped, he still won first place. Great job Kevin !!!!!!!!!

The race is currently under review by the chief ref. Mike Tomlinson.

Apparently, two turn buoys were dislodged, and it is alledged that Typhoon and Team Progressive/Wild Card came dangerously close to the turn boats. thus being penalized one lap and finishing points.

Lavey craft (running the experimental NXT drive) was lapped by most of the fleet and will receive first place, if the penalties remain.

a decision will be made tommorrow.

So what penalties are currently being assessed upon IMCO and Wild Ride ? Didn't Typhoon lap the Laveycraft?

From what I understand, Imco and Wild Ride did not receive any penalties.

Typhoon and Progressive/Wild Card did lap Lavey Craft. Imco pulled off before the race finished. Wild Ride was having mech. problems.

Wow. That sucks big! Sounded like one heck of a race.

Typhoon/Wild Card and Wild Ride all lapped Laveycraft so the question remains on how to score based on penalties. Results to be finalized today.

Great tight racing upfront with three lead changes, that is why spec racing is so much fun WOT and set up wins.

Caution lap?
 

Since I've never been out to install a turn buoy, I don't know the time that it takes to properly position it. But why wouldn't they run a caution lap or two to acquire and reposition the buoy(s)? I think the start of one of the LOTO races was delayed because of the same reason.

A restart would lead to a more exciting race and the results wouldn't be tainted by boats navigating a turn whose pivot point is left to their best judgement of what 100 feet past the turn boat is.

If there's no buoy and you're racing side by side, how do you choose your line if you're on the outside? The course should always be clearly defined. In road racing, it's a great way to pass by pressuring the inside lane to brake more by confining his space. I haven't raced a boat (yet), but it seems like the same would hold true.

I'm sorry if there is an obvious point that I missed, but a dislodged buoy is a disappointing way to ruin a great race.

if a turn buoy lets loose, we are supposed to race where it would have been. Not where it is going. The turn boat is anchored several yard inside the buoy and we should use it as a reference point. the question here is, how close did the racers come to the turn boat? I guess the turn boat needs to answer that question. and did they really create a unsafe situation? that will be decided today.
