I was fortunate to see this movie over the weekend after so many years of waiting. This is by far the best coverage of the earlier days (not the earliest) of Offshore Racing. Given the age and technological limitations of the time, I thought it was excellent.
The Footage of Don Aronow during his Championship seasons was priceless. Seeing departed old friends like Pruitt and Sirois in their prime, brought a tear to my eyes. The rough water footage and the length of the races was a great counterpoint to today's racing model. Also the simplicity of the classes (1-outboard and 2-Inboard) made so much sense in retrospect that all of today's racers should be required to view this.
You can obtain a copy by joining Charlie McCarthy's HORBA(Historic Offshore Race Boat Association) for a very modest fee...... www.historicraceboats.com
I loved it.
