I've had a pump housing develop a grove or two that looked like it was molded in the housing from the factory, It wans't until I put it next to a new housing that I saw the difference, for some reason it was eating up impellers.

All of Merc's big motors (800,900,1000sc), run the pump w/ 2 stainless wear plates instead of 1 too. I can guarantee you that this style pump will last much longer.Never had too many problems till this 1 piece plastic body pump showed up.Even small motors 5.0/5.7 Mercs are having problems w/ longevity of 1 piece pump housing and impeller.

Seems silly for Merc to use this kind of crappy pump, especially if they offer a warranty on the motor.

again- why use dish soap not grease or wd-40 on the impeller? I thought dish soap as well as grease or oil has a negative effect on rubber.

randy, she was cracked staight inbetween the inlet and outlet fittings,am testing tommorrow will see if she stays dry,all I can figure is maybe she was cracked and the pounding made it leak, thats something you and I couldn't duplicate that night, and it just got bigger, I have had those hoses off and looked and didn't find anything!

Striped the cooling system apart and found what I think was the problem. The Gimbel hose that kinked in the first place may have been loose on the top side in the extension box. After taking the drive off and Gimbel helmet and Gimbel bellow we pulled on the hose and it came out. Im hopeing it was sucking air and that was the problem. We reinstalled all the components and went for a test run yesterday. Ran the boat hard in 4-5' seas and had no problems. Thanks for all the help guys!!

Better check your oil cooler for pieces of impeller packed in there.

Thanks, we found all the pieces of the impeller. The odd thing was that they were not burned from heat but more or less broken off. Im just praying that was it.
