Images from Ocean City this weekend. <Picture thread>
First off what a great show in town this weekend. I was glad to see the races brought back last year and was excited when I heard you guys would return this year. What an awesome weekend, one of my favorites living in town. Just a note to say it was nice to meet some crews on Saturday; peeps from On the Chip (thanks for the shirts you guys are OFF the hook :evilb: ), Reliable crew for letting me get shots of the engine bays, The silver cat Ansel? crew and family (mom, pops, son, daughter), and the rockstars who gave us beer.
A special thanks to miss Geico crew, what a great sponsor for the event........you all had it hooked up right! John (with turbine marine) and the Assistant crew cheif (Brandon?) were great. I heard much about the Geico, it's recent Baltimore-Annapolis record and wanted to check out the boat up close. No problem with these guys, class act. What happened to the Wicked Performance Cat? We saw it pull up to the beach.........like a beached whale to the amazement of everyone. I saw trooper 4 (medivac) flying but didn't land so I hope no one was hurt. It was pretty wild to see a boat charge the beach like that. http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/163960873-L.jpg |
Thankfully, No One was hurt...
The hull delaminated taking on water. They beached the boat so it wouldn't sink. A crane will come in to lift it out of the water and place on the trailer. then a tractor will tow the trailer to the street Not an easy task, considering access to the beach is limited. |

I figured it was sinking, good to know no injuries. In one of my pics it looks like the front right cat on the inside? Hard to tell though. http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/163599512-L.jpg http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/163599527-L.jpg http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/163599537-L.jpg http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/163599556-L.jpg |

I have many more of the actual races today which I will post later. If anyone else has some pics please share too, thanks.

Just get busy and post more!! Thanks for sharing:D

A few from the actual race. On a side note the Wicked boat definately has a damaged hull. Wonder if it's a stress fracture or caused from a collision with something?

When we got the boat up on the beach we actually got to see how bad it really was and when Stan told me when they would go off a wave he was getting wet for two laps then the boat finally hooked to the right is when they decided to put it on the beach:( the boat is hurt but will race again is what Jay said.
|
That is crazy that the right side split like that Iknow for sure that morning my wife and I saw some one doing some grinding on that side of the boat on the inside of the sponson probably not related to their problem with the hull but just a thought

Bo,
Outstanding shots! :drink: I too shoot with a Canon but it is the Rebel with the same L-Series 100-400 lens. I wanted to try to get the filter before I left but the Camera store opened too late. :( I see the difference now with and without. Really nice shots. I am just finishing getting the images off the cards. Still a ton of work to get them uploaded online though. They will be posted soon! Dee, Glad to see you got to the infield! :drink: Let me know when the link is up and I will add it to http://www.SharkeyMarine.com |

Going through my pics I noticed a lot were blurry. I was trying to pan to get motion blur, they looked OK on the tiny LCD in the sun but not so much on the computer. Oh well, a few motion shots are salvageable. A few more; http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/164381362-L.jpg http://mojophoto.smugmug.com/photos/164381426-L.jpg |

Great shots. You must have had some big glass to get that close from shore.

Thanks! I'd be lying if I didn't say the images were shot in RAW so a little post processing goes into each :D A good quality CP helps a lot too. Photography is a hobby I enjoy like you guys enjoy racing boats.

Oh well, a few motion shots are salvageable. I am really dissappointed with so many of my shots. They look great on "Preview" on the PC, but blown up to full image it's not looking so good. I think the heat and distance we were trying to shoot had alot to due with today's pics. I burned up 2 batteries at one point and the 400 hundred lens was pretty hot to hold. I just may need to start shooting in RAW format myself. ;) |
