Ok,just a thought here!Say we have twenty boats between class 5 and 6.Again,just a thought! what if you had 10 boats in each race, take the top 5 from each race for a feature and maybe even a last chance qualifier taking the top 3.that would give the boats that broke a second chance to get fixed and get back in. Maybe too much racing? could run 3 lap heats and maybe 5 or 6 lap feature. What are your thoughts?

I talk to Smitty the other day about it..and he had a thought like yours...to run qualifing runs...I like the idea becuase 20 boats across is not going to fit in St Clair....but one thing I would like to throw out there is..if we get that many boats and have a qualifier...is that everone still dose the race....
The top 10 boats in the first start in qualifying and another pace boat 50 yards behind them with the other 10 boats and have the green go at the same time....

keep in mind,we'll probably lose 5 out of 20 boats to those nasty gremlins that we have all experienced. Also if 1 class 6 boat says no,it should me no for all.Should be unanimous decision not a mojority vote.

No offense, but I thought the whole idea was to have one big race with 20 boats starting together and racing on the course at once like the old A-Class of F1 Class days..."heat races" dont make sense in my opinion.

There should be 10-12 Class 5 boats in and 6-8 Class 6 in St Clair.I like the idea of racing on the short course.Start Class 5 first...followed closely by Class 6.That would 20 or so boats on a smaller course at once and there would be plenty of side by side racing and overtaking.Score Class 5 and Class 6 seperately...there are teams running for points and combining the classes could cause problems.

Changing the class structure and race format for this race is not a good idea.Leave it alone..its working and its only going to get better.

I don't think we are trying to change the class 5, class 6 formate....just trying to put on a show that has not been done in 10 years....
If all the Class 6 guys want to do this....thats 1st....
the idea is to get a 20 boat class for 1 race...the class 6 guys woud get a set points number for showing and then a big prize purse to pay out....most if not all class 6 boats can run 75 in calmer water....but look at every class...what class has the chance of running 20+ boats in a class in the next 2 to 4 years....
This is a oppertunity to show the fans what it is like...plus any racer that has been in a class of 20+ knows what I'm talking about....plus we have the TV...
The 20+ boat count is what got me into racing...and there may be guys out there that when they also see 20 boat racing would spark some interest in racing...
We all love doing this...but we also need to get some racers sitting on the sidelines and some new racers....

Jim and myself just talked about this. Splitting the $ accross the entire fleet would be awesome! Some of the teams are either running shoe string budgets or dont really have the time to take off or the $ to get to some of these sights. I can say for us that Sunny Isles worked out great it helped us get there and run. (even thought we broke our **** up!

The next thing would be the start. Gino is right that we cant fit that many boats side by side on a running start. Just isnt safe and somebody is gonna get pissed off that they got cut off or bumped into, something. We would almost have to do a qualifying lap to see where on the poll you would be and if we had a staggered start with 2 starts what start you would be in. If its flatter then the past 2 races most class 6 guys might have a chance. If its rough like OC we wont have a chance. I do realize that once the class 6 guys commit theres no changing our mind once we show up and see the water conditions! Lets all keep that in mind!

I also do like the statement Gino made that its nice to say you came in 8th or 12th out of 20 boats versus 2nd out of 2! HAHA!! How many class 6 boats are thinking of even being there? If we get the side of our fixed we are planning on attending. Who else? Another thing is what if 6 or 8 class 6 boats show? Do we only want to race against each other for points and pot? Like said, we need to really think about this.

Thanks!
John

The short course at St Clair is much wider than the long course and would accomendate a 20 boat start.
