As an avid fan and attendee of all the Michigan races, I would enjoy watching an exhibition race like that. Just to see how much you guys can squeeze out of the smaller boats.
|
And who'd insure this ?

If it was unlimited speed, would those boats then race in the class based on that top speed? We might try to make a couple of Michigan races. We really had alot of fun in St Clair and was impressed with everything about it. |
My personal opinion is that it is not safe running small open cockpit vee bottoms at those speeds.

Your certainly within the Class 6 parameters...but maybe HP limits can be implemented into the rules in the future.
Luckily I'm not easily intimidated & am building a motor to put me on the same, or close to the same playing field as others. Now if the hp parameters for 6 changed I'd be pissed. A monster has been created. To change to hp caps now could possibly drive away more racers than it would potentially attract. MD Also from my talks with and listing to opa staff & insurers. This extreme class talk is just that....talk to kill them winter blues. It would never fly...... :)$$$ |
It still has to run for more than one race . I think the key here is to have a package that doesn't exceed the wallet and does not have to be taken apart all the time. Save the money for the drives your going to lunch. lol. Just my opinion, unwanted I sure. BW

As an outsider looking in, just getting into class 6. I can truthfully say that reading on here and talking to others about the HP needed to play and be competitive in class 6 is nauseating & a bit of a deterrent

Most likely not, from what I hear at least.
But that's all I can afford this yr Well see. MD |
I cant see how a 650 or 700hp limit in Class 6 would hurt turnout. I tend to agree with the Combat Zone guys...I bet there are a handful of guys who come on here interested in the Class to read about guys with 900hp and feel like they shouldnt bother.

AGREED!! I think we might bow out gracefully this year being we only have 615 hp! It would be cheaper for us 3 to just fly to all the race sites and watch!

K.I.S.S. really needs to go into effect. Enforce the 500hp rule for 6 and make the rest that want to run bigger power move up to 5. Why thats so hard to understand is beyond me but as long as they have a good turnout I guess nothing will change.
A huge class 5 or even 5/6 combined would be a kicka$$ class |

A huge class 5 or even 5/6 combined would be a kicka$$ class 500. Combining 5 & 6 will never happen, it would be a step backward. |
My first 3 years I had 450 horsepower.

617hp in a 26ft Velocity = a Tawas Win  (maybe 619hp, I'll have to ask Gary)
So if you think you need 650/700/750 or 800hp your wrong, we pulled a great start and lead start to finish. The key is not always BIG POWER.. the key is ;',dcqmcnqbnjbkcqbdcjdBACBasjkdcbaodbcabd (top secret) |

Sorry, didn't mean to overlook you. Add Bad Newz to the around 500 hp list. Didn't mean to offend, meant only to make point most of class 6 boat are 600+ at this point

My opinion has always been to make 6 the intro or cheaper class with 500hp limit then have class 5 be the big power, sub-30' class. Who knows maybe it will go that way with crockett, dukes, wazzup 2 and other big power teams moving on. |

Thats kinda my point...would have liked to seen wazzup and the likes in 5 but again thats only an opinion from a non-racer. I don't even know if there are really all that many people who would come out if there was a true "entry" class but the way 6 was last year no way was that entry level. Trying to beat wazzup, crockett and the likes would be quite a feat for newcomers. Seeing crockett put the hurt on 4 and boomer running an SVL should be pretty entertaining lol
Plan to make it out to a couple races with the phantom. Going to miss st clair so hard to get too excited about the season as that is one of the best events of the year. But i love tawas and spend a lot of time up there over the years so I want to support that race. Port Huron too since its so close. Doubt I'll do much more. Lots of other $hit going on this year again. You doing the full season this year? |
