No I havnt, but I was just talking if the interior was the only issue. If there are other issues with the boat then the costs add up. If you have detailed pics I would be interested in seeing them.

Dan,
It sounds like it needs more than just some new vinyl. Replacing doors, panels, carpet, windshield, etc is going to add up. Not to mention it sounds like it has some paint issues too. Hacked skegs? One discolored header? I was told 25 hours on the engines. Looking at the video I see leaks at one of the blowers. God only knows the true condition of the engines and drives.

I guess what I'm saying is the boat doesn't appear to be such a deal once you start looking closer and adding up everything to get it back in shape. By the time you get in there finding and fixing everything, someone is going to spend a lot more than $5-$10k!

That 5-10K was just for interior. All the panel's and doors are vinyl and included in that number with the carpet. More on the 10-12K side. The condition of the motors are the big question. You can weld the skegs back to normal. Header could of just been a bad impeller or something and just needs polishing. Who knows. Something the owner may have never gotten to.

Does anybody know what the real displacement is. I don't understand what tommy Hughes 577 CID / "the cuz" 540 ci motors mean. Are they 577's or 540's. And whose "cuz" built them.

n20michael 02-04-2011 03:57 AM

Good question, and what bore/stroke gives you 577? Unless he meant 572? (4.5 x 4.5)

He probably means a 557 ci which is the same cubes that merc uses for there 850 and 1075 package, it's 4.375 stroke X 4.50 bore 540 is 4.25 X 4.5 and 572 is 4.5 X 4.5, the reason for this set up by merc is that 4.375 stroke is the most you can use in a shot deck and still have decent rod angle.
thanks Dean

10.2 block with .400 longer rods? Or can you use a regular 9.8 deck height? What block does Merc use? Steel? Or alum with liners?

So 1 day left no bids, no reserve so I bet they yank it say it was sold local. Then they try and clean it up some without putting and real money in it since I am sure someone close to it has read this thread about it. Then put it back on ebay with some story and the list of great stuff thats been done to it since last time. Right around the Miami boat show with a reserve and a starting bid at 100k.

soggy bottom 02-07-2011 03:36 PM

Short deck or 9.8 inch 4.375 stroke max tall deck 10.200 4.500 and above. merc use iron blocks.

n20michael 02-07-2011 03:58 PM

Steel rods? I dont think alum rods would clear on a 9.8 deck with 4.375 stroke? I assume most marine engines run steel rods anyway. Is the Merc block a "GM" bowtie style block, or do they use the aftermarket Merlin/World Products stuff and rebadge it as "Merc"

I saw the "no bids" myself, was wondering if they are gonna pull the listing myself, wait and see.
