Re: Winter Upgrades?

Thanks, Storm.Yea, My boys want the green eyes, so I am sure they will be somewhere when we are done. It currently has a sternpower drive with the Borg Warner 72c transmission. If it does not handle well I won't hesitate to go to a bravo type drive Xz Xr imco maybe mext winters project.

Stormrider 01-15-2006 03:09 PM

Re: Winter Upgrades?

w/ the tranny, i'd got w/ a konrad.
That will handle much more power than a bravo.
Someone on the board is doing a trs, konrad conversion now.

Re: Winter Upgrades?

I am hoping the Sternpowr works well it is definately beefier than any bravo, takes SSM2 props, and there are a lot of fountain 27 and 29's that run really well with the LH rotation,. It does not yet make sense to me but I hope to learn some setup tricks from the fountain guys relative to the L prop rotation.

Re: Winter Upgrades?

I never had or drove a boat before but have been trying to completely redo a 24 pantera for almost two years it is starting to look good but having a few snags. Switch to a bravo 1 drive and built a 454 with 475 hp. and new dash with Gaffrig controls and gages.

Re: Winter Upgrades?

I tried to send some but the pic file size was to big and I set my camera for 1 mega pixel. I would like for you guys to see if there is any thing that you see wrong in the pics like the location for fuel filter, remount oil filter, oil cooler, bilge pumps, and problem with engine pulleys.

Thanks Todd

The moment of truth tomorrow!! My engine goes on the dyno to see what I'm really getting for HP. Then the teardown, inspection, Jessel Shaft Rockers, New Cam, Larger Injectors, and Reprogrammed ECU.

Then back on the dyno to we see what HP I'll push this year!!

Stormrider 01-24-2006 08:19 AM

Re: Winter Upgrades?

p28, should be interesting to see what it was running at.
I'm sure you'll get it where you want it to be.
Did you dyno it after it was built or before it went in the boat?

Re: Winter Upgrades?

Yes it was in Middletown RI. I offered $2500.00 with all the spare parts and then sold them on ebay for $2100.00 biggest thing I sold was a complete TRS set up for $1600.00 now I think it was to cheap. When I bought the boat I did't know what a TRS drive was.

Hey Kirk ,

How are you making out with your engine , what did the old one make on the dyno ? Let us know .

Elite Marine 02-11-2006 07:02 PM

Re: Winter Upgrades?

Just dynod it last week with terrible results...550 HP. Looks like I should have changed my Screen Name to
Pantera 28-550HP (severely underpowered). We're going to slip the cam in on the dyno and run it again before I do my other mods - Jessel Shaft Rockers, Larger injectors, a reprogrammed ECU on the dyno and CMI Exhaust.

I at least will get to my 650HP for sure. I'm planning my next engine already, a 540-572 naturally aspirated, fuel injected beast!! Should be around 700 HP. But that engine is a year or so away.

morgan, saw your 28' last week.engine room looking awesome !!! i like the platinum gelcoat what color are you going with on the upholstery ?

Re: Winter Upgrades?

Hey kirk , glad to hear you were down on power 550 hp isn't enough in that boat to do what your looking for , I dynoed at a little better than 650 hp hope to run mid to high 70's .
I was in Miami on the 3rd and 4th and spent some time at the shop with Jo and Pepe , I still have a way's to go with my boat but it is coming along and they are doing a great job rigging the engine as we speak . Looks great .

Speed buff , thanks for the compliment , spent alot of time on details of the engine, it's nice to see someone noticed . Have you pulled the trigger on a 28 or are you still shopping . I might make it down the end of the week for the boat show maybe we can hook up and I'll get you a ride on Mike Berg's Cobra powered 28 . I have been out a few times with him and that run's real strong .

Re: Winter Upgrades?

What do you guys think about going with a crossover system to clean up the engine on a BBC that is a little better than stock ? And what would be the hot setup ?

Re: Winter Upgrades?

Sticking with the recirculating pump.

My new to me Whippled HP500 arrived today:)

Will install in mid march (Time for people to test drive my 575) do a baseline with my labbed 28 then have throttle up tune my P5X from there

Re: Winter Upgrades?

cattitude ,

I would hope that new whipple motor will run that 28 pitch against the rev limiter . Can't believe you have the motor and can wait tell mid march to get her in there . Sell that 575 and get going , we are all waiting to see how she run's . What kind of money are you looking to get out of the 575 . I might know someone for it .

The 575 is on about page 8 in the classifieds- has a fresh blower from the blowershop- it's the Wiend which is the better of the two factory blowers from Merc- it has wet bearing on both ends vs the sealed units on the back of the Holley blowers.

Our lake is way low, ramps are kind of fubarred and ultimately, I figured it would be easier to sell if someone could test drive it then we yank it. Come March I'll videotape it etc on the last run so someone can have warm fuzzies.

This engine (500 w /Whipple) has Aluminum heads (New in August) and custom mapping with an airfuel meter etc and pulls strong to the rev limiter at 6k, I'd like to prop it for 55-5600 or so and pickup some cruise speed etc. It was in a single 32 Sunsation, he's building a 5 litre whipple engine (the blower is 5.0) and going Arneson:)

Oh I wanted that whippled beast bad but I just didn't have time to sell the 24 first. Good luck with it.

one step closer, my motor showed up Thursday...

it's a 540 :D

if any of you guys need a motor shipped, I have to recommend using forwardair.com. I had this motor shipped from JFK (NYC) to Knoxville, TN for $257. It was dropped off the evening of the 21st and was available early on the 23rd.
