I second that!!!

I'm having exhaust issues...so let me enjoy your success for now!

B-Stubb 04-19-2007 06:33 PM

Ok head hung low very upset , pin hight on pistons was wrong and compresion too high and blew head gasket and detonated it . However new pistons arived today puting it back together tonight . It still ran 90 at 5500 on rails..

Elite Marine 04-19-2007 08:56 PM

tomcei 04-20-2007 02:45 PM

I hope so. Iv'e been busy with another boat as well. I'm going to take some pics and post a thread soon. By the way your shop looks exellent with the Panteras in it.:D

Elite Marine 05-08-2007 06:11 PM

Any update?

MIAMIBOYZ 05-09-2007 01:13 PM

Wow Brian that sucks!! that is why I use a .76 thick Cometic gasket and .20 in the hole in a dish piston. Check your spring pressure before you put it back together. Any questions dont hesitate to call, love to get together some day for a fun run.

Wow sorry to hear about the motor. Been following this thread for awhile and was hoping to hear you hit triple digits.
And everyone is right, you have the nicest shop I have ever seen.

On the plus side......
Your paint job looks great so does the rigging.
Your boat flew (90) when you took my wife and I a ride in it.
That was right after you did the new interior.
You are one of the best mechanics & riggers
I have ever seen and I am sure
you will get it straightend out quickly.

Best of luck to you

Elite Marine 05-28-2007 07:14 PM

Any luck yet?

Thanks for the call last week. I am ordering my shortie this week.

Hey B-Stubb:

I've been busy since I brought the boat back from Florida, however, thanks for fixing my trailer. It was a real treat towing the boat with brakes that actually made the entire trip. first time in 3 years. Talk soon. Hope all is going well.

Ok motor went back together 2nd time poped another piston 100 in hole made it 8.6 and it detonated so new pistons on the way and going to drop boost a little . 540 is in it now and going to run season on the 540 and try big motor next season or 633 is almost done might have to try that one?? Hate to say gas is getting worse every day guys beware ....Going to have to splash with race gas a little ..

B-Stubb 06-11-2007 09:07 PM

However 540 ran 92 with same set up so I will have back to back runs with and without box stay tuned ..540 is so mild mannerd yo moma could drive it kinda nice 580 was nasty .

tomcei 06-11-2007 09:07 PM

633.... wow

Dude! Sweet! 06-12-2007 12:14 PM

Brian, I'm going to have to talk to you a bit this fall! I've been thinking of a 540 with an 8-71, but it occurred to me that a 590 - 630 cube motor really isn't that much more expensive to build and would allow me to run lower compresson (for our crappy gas in CA) and a little less boost and still make solid power (shooting for 750 - 800ish).

Was your 580 on the edge though or was the nastiness a function of the displacement/torque? What's up with the 633?

It's funny, I know a guy with a pair of Pfaff 1000s in his Gun, they are 598s with 14-71s and that boat seems to run all day, no problemo.

B-Stubb 06-13-2007 11:07 PM

Yes the bost was a little high and we loaded the prop real hard for a long time so its my fault probaly . 700-800 hp is very easy and build big dont cost any more!!!!

B-Stubb 06-13-2007 11:10 PM

I aquired a 4 3/4 crank a while ago and a tall dart so why not . Blower spin so fast on 580 it just screamed you could hear blower in parking lot at boat ramp.

Dude! Sweet! 06-15-2007 12:22 PM

Brian, does your boat have a full cabin?

dangerkitty2 01-11-2008 11:09 PM

Brian where have you been?

B-Stubb 01-12-2008 04:31 PM

Im out there not doing anything real interesting putting the big motor back in this winter but thats it maby next year look for bigger boat ??

djmadmatt 04-18-2009 06:29 PM

Wow ... quite the read. That was great!

B-Stubb 04-19-2009 12:30 PM
