mike, nice story.
You might try and tweek your idle mixture screws on the carb. It might help it at idle when shifting in and out of gear.. To lean it up try a 1/4 to 1/2 turn in on all four corners. Of course you may want to consult your engine builder first. |
Mike , Glad to here you are home running her hard. 87 mph is awesome in a single. Sounds like you got her proped pretty good. The carb stuff you are gonna have to play with a bit, what does the transome look like after a good run? I'm sure she is a bit rich off the dyno, thats the safe way to go. You may want to sit under the hatch with it running and set your carb with someone else bumping it in and out of gear so you can get her just right. Congrates she looks awesome, I guess I need some cool graphics now.

That is great news Mike !! With a little more tweaking and a little more pitch we might see 90 MPH on GPS.Will play with it when you get down here.
Regards, JO |
Mike your carb was adjusted and tweaked at Cobra on the Dyno, do not attemt to play with it. Call Randy at Cobra and have him give you a new one set up like it yours with the same jets that left there or have him go through yours. Check your plug wires and make sure they are snugged on the spark plugs. Great numbers on speed, just remember to practice safety when you are doing high speeds with the wife on board.

Regards, JO Jo let me know when the boat comes down for testing, I`ll take out my Mig 28 for a fun run with you. |
MiamiBoys, I've been talking to Randy and he had me try a couple of things, and he's sending me some new jets for the carb. I wasn't going to mess with it. Just seeing if it was anything simple. I started it up today with the mufflers on it and it sounds terrible and way to quiet. Anyway I let it warm up for a bit and I just can't get the thing to idle for anything I have to keep fighting with it. I think there is something else wrong with it. Like maybe something is clogged or something I don't know but it is frustrating. It's perfect 1500 rpm and up it's just anything below that I have trouble keeping it running. When idling around in gear it's either trying to idle at 700 ( which is a tad to low) or 1200 and that's to high. I don't know!! That's why I was asking for suggestions.
He also had me change some of the advance settings on the crane box and they seemed like they helped at first but then it started doing the same thing again. |

are the flaps on the intake opening and closing smoothly?
could one be stuck open? either way, its a new engine. let cobra take care of it. |
I would love to let Randy take care of it but I'm in Maryland and Randy is in Florida. So that makes it a little hard. I will be taking the boat back in a couple of weeks but I still want to use it for the time being. I was just hoping for something simple.
Albert I will definitely check for a vacuum leak that's a good idea. I just don't recall seeing many vacuum lines though! Stormrider what flaps are you referring too the carb butterfly's or something else. If you are referring to them yea everything seems to be working smooth. the only thing that feels weird there is you can feel when the secondary's open there is a slight bump/ notch type feel there. |
Oh and I tried the those Gibson mufflers at lunch and if someone wants their boat to be quiet these are your answer. I couldn't believe how much quieter they made the boat it's ridiculous. I was looking for some mufflers that just took the bite out of the exhaust not make it sound like it has silent choice. So what mufflers have you all used and what do you suggest. Again the mufflers really did their job it's just that we don't have a noise law here in Maryland and just trying to be nice to my neighbors.
The one thing I don't have on there is the rubber flappers but they really don't quiet the boat down do they? Have never used a boat without them so I really don't know! Mike Mike |
